Meanwhile, Gen. George
S. Brown, chairman of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff, ex-
pressed his regrets that he
was unable to attend the de-
partment's recent conven-
tion owing to another com-
mitment.

Commander Robert J.
Perliss issued the invitation
to Brown "because we feel
that if the press has mis-
quoted you in the past, you
should have the opportunity
to set the record straight
publicly. If the press has
not misquoted you, and
they are your true feelings,
you should have this op-
portunity to reiterate those
feelings.
"In either event, it is our
duty as Americans to guar-
antee your right to state
your opinions in peacetime,
in the same way that we
fought and died to preserve
this fundamental American
right."

ended the year with an
awards ceremony and lunch-
eon. Honored for attending
youth services 30 times dur-

stickers for all children and
their families. Copies may

for children age 8 to 13. The
Star of David Reading Club
invites young people to re-
port to Ms. Rice on any
book they read during the
summer months. Names of
participants will be dis-
played in the library, and a
party will be held in their
honor Aug. 25. Membership
