Class Teaching Award for
"dedication and excellence
in medical education" by
Flint Osteopathic Hospital.
Rhina Griffel was present-
ed with Whittier Junior
High School's "Brave of the
Year" award for special
services to the school. Mrs.
Griffel is chairman of the
school's community adviso-
ry council.
Dr. Marvin Persky, Mott
Community College politi-
cal science instructor, is at-
tending an eight-week na-
tional endowment for the hu-
manities seminarat the Uni-
versity of Minnesota.
Dr. Saul Gorne was hon-
ored by McLaren General
Hospital at a symposium on
"Islet Cell Transplants"
held last month.
Mark Pelavin was elected
to a three-year term on the
board of the Flint Urban

B. Morris Pelavin was
honored by Bnai Brith Flint
Lodge, the state legislature
and the Flint Jewish Com-
munity Council at the
lodge's annual dinner-dance
and awards banquet.
Pelavin was presented
with a plaque by his lodge
and with an award from the
FJCC. Representative Mark
Clodfelter read a state proc-
lamation on Pelavin's be-
half.

Helen Schlachter

Helen Schlachter, active
in Jewish affairs in Flint,
died June 6 at age 66.
Born in Russia, Mrs.
Schlachter lived in Flint for
14 years prior to retiring to
Florida five years ago. She
was a member of Cong.
Beth Israel and its sister-
hood and Hadassah.
She is • survived by her
husband, Phillip; a son,
Howard of Miami Beach,
Fla.; two daughters, Ber-
nice of Flint and Mrs. Leon
(Sheila) Schafer of Lan-
sing; two brothers, Abra-
ham Alechman of Flushing
and Hy Alechman of Forest
Hills, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs.
Pearl Epstein of Brooklyn,
N.Y. ; and two grand-
children.

daughter, Deborah, to Mit-
chell Goldberg, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Morton Goldberg
of Springfield, N.J.
Miss Arenson attended
Brown University and was
graduated from the Univer-
sity of California in Santa
Cruz. Her fiance attended
Cornell and Johns Hopkins
Universities and also was
graduated from the U of C
in Santa Cruz.
An August wedding in
Santa Cruz is planned.
