floors of the medical cen-
ter. The central section of
the audio-visual department
will be the editing room. It
will be accessible from all
other workrooms on the
floor.
The pictorial L Arary and
index will be located here.
Prints and negatives will be
filed and indexed in a cen-
tral file.
In endowing this impor-
tant project at Shaare
Zedek, the Shenkmans are
continuing 'their in-
volvement in many Jewish
endeavors.
During Shenkman's presi-
dency of the United Hebrew
Schools, the Hebrew High
School and Midrasha Build-
ing on 12 Mile Rd. was
erected'. He was the presi-
dent of the Beth Aaron
Synagogue and under his ad-
ministration, the construc-
tion of the synagogue was
completed. In recognition
"of his outstanding contribu-
tions to Jewish education
and synagogue life," he
was honored by the Jewish
Theological Seminary with
the National Community
Leadership Award.
The Shenkmans are con-
tributors to the Jewish Na-
tional Fund, the United
Hebrew Schools, the Youth

Nathan Shaham, one of
the leading novelists in Is-
rael, has been named Is-
raeli consul for culture and
art in the U.S. He will work
from the Israeli consulate
in New York.
Shaham is attending the
American Library Associ-
ation's national convention
in Detroit this weekend and
is planning cultural pro-
grams with Toby Holtzman.
Aliya Village in Talpiot, the
Habad House in Ann Arbor,
the Mathilda Schachter
Residence Hall in New
York City and they are ac-
tive in the Allied Jewish
Campaign and Israel Bond
drives.
Mrs. Shenkman has serv-
ed as president of the Mich-
igan Branch of the
Women's League for Con-
servative Judaism and pres-
ently is a member of the na-
tional board of directors.
Jack and Miriam Shenk-
man will be honored at the
ant dal dinner of the Detroit
Friends of Shaare Zedek
Hospital on June 29, at the
Sheraton-Southfield Hotel.
During their planned fall
visit to Israel, official pre-
sentation will be made at
the new Shaare Zedek Medi-
cal Center in Jerusalem.
