Michener Series Will Begin With Special Israel Feature "James Michener's World," a series of hour- long documentary specials featuring Pulitzer Prize- winning author James A. Michener as host and guide to the distant regions he has written about, will make its premiere 8 p.m. Tuesday on Channel 56. "Israel: A Search for Faith," produced by the Reader's Digest Associ- ation, Inc., will be the debut program in the series, with three other spe- cials scheduled to air with- in the next 12 months. Of the many places that Michener has visited and that have furnished back- ground for his books, the land of Israel holds special fascination for him. "The Source," his novel about Is- FANTASTIC rael, was published in 1965. Beginning his personal odyssey in the city of Je- rusalem, Michener criss- crosses the country. He ex- plores the reasons why three of the world's great religious developed from this tiny, mostly arid patch of earth. Michener will visit the ancient city of Hatzor, which dates back to the 27th Century B.C.; the Via Dolorosa along which Jesus trod on his way to Calvary; the mountaintop stronghold of Masada where an out- numbered band of Jews de- fied the sword and fire of the Roman legions; and the tents of the present nomads of the desert.
