`Israel Must
Be Defendable'

Editor, The Jewish
News:
When Carter needed Jew-
ish votes he was a warm
friend of Israel. Now, as
President, he indicates his
intention to force Israel to
give the West Bank and
Gaza to the terrorist PLO.
Israel is supposed to give
the PLO bases a few miles
from their cities—to the ter-
rorists who bombed their
market places, • murdered
their children and who have
made it unmistakably clear
their intention 'to destroy
their country. Not only
would the terrorists make
life hell for the Israelis, but
froni the example of what
they did to the Lebanese,
the Arabs also would gre-
viously suffer.
If that is not ba'd enough,
we' have local Jewish
groups at great expense
bringing in such speakers
as Sena Abraham •Ribicoff
to lull our people to believe
that President Carter's
readiness to surrender to
Arab demands is really a
honest genuine effort at a
peace settlement, and only
if Israel and the American
Jewry will trust Carter won-
derful peace in the Middle
East is finally at hand.
Ribicoff- thought Israel's
security after withdrawal to
the 1967 borders was a tri-
vial matter.

troit Tennis Club $2,00Q In-
vitational Tennis Tourna-
ment June 15-19 at the De-
troit Tennis and Squash
Club, 31031 Drake, Farm-
ington Hills. The tourna-
ment is sanctioned by the
USTA.
Players may enter one
event only in the following
categories: men's, men's
35, 45 and 55 and women's
singles and--womereg 35. All
divisipns will be limited to
32 players. Men's singles is
by invitation only; the other
divisions are open, with pre-
liminary matches required
of some players if more
than 32 entries are re
ceived.

There is an entry fee.
Out-of-town players in all
events must report no later
than 6 p.m. June 17. Match
times on June 15, 16 and 17
will be 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Players should call the club
at 661-2300 on June 14 to
learn the time of their first
round match.

All players must hold a
valid USTA membership
card. Applications will be
available at the tourna-
ment. For information on
entry fees and where to
send them, contact the tour-
nament director at the
