`Jewish Welfare Services Aid
More Than 80,000 Annually'

NEW YORK—Fifty-seven
Jewish family and chil-
dren's agencies in North
American handle some
82,500 different cases an-
nually, according to data
contained in the new Year-
book of Social Services com-
piled by the Community
Planning Department of the
Council of Jewish Feder-
ations.
The actual number of
cases served, based on con-
servative estimates from
non-reporting agencies, is
in excess of 100,000 per
year.

In addition to providing
comprehensive services for
the aged and for children,
Jewish family agencies
offer group therapy and
counseling, based on ability
to pay, and a program of
Jewish family life educa-
tion in one-session or recur-
rent groups, to deal with a
variety of family concerns.
Services to other Jewish

communal agencies and vol-
unteer assistance are also
part of the agencies' wide
range of programs.
Family agencies also op-
erate programs to provide
home help aids, foster
home and group living ar-
rangements, escort serv-
ices, food stamp pick-up,
shopping, holiday parties
and other services for the
Jewish elderly.
Services to, children in
their own homes, as report-
ed by seven of the 10 Jew-
ish child care agencies in
North America, accounted
for some 5,000 of a total of
7,600 case units served in
the 12-month period.
, Full-time placement serv-
ices were provided to 2,150
children by both; family and
child-care agencies.
Numerous other services
provided included day care,
scholarships and vocational
counseling, camp programs
and group counseling pro-
grams.

Chaim Gross Art Works at Jewish Museum

NEW YORK—A major ex-
hibition of the work of the
American Jewish artist,
Chaim Gross, is on display
at The Jewish Museum.
One hundred eighty-six
sculptures, drawings, water-
colors, prints and ta-
pestries, will present the
artist's works from the
early years to the present.
These works, selected by
guest curator, Roberta Tar-
bell, an authority on Ameri-
can sculpture and author of
the catalogue accom-
panying the exhibition,
have been brought together
from 40 leading private and
public collections.
Born in 1904 in Austrian
Galicia, Gross emigrated to
the U.S. in 1921. He began
to sculpt in wood during the
1920's, utilizing the - tech-
