POST
BRUCE LYONS, vice
president at Manufacturers
National Bank, Greenfield
and Eight Mile, says this
happened recently...A
woman asked for a new
check book... "I've lost the
one you gave me yes-
terday," she said. "But it
doesn't matter. I took the
precaution of signing all the
checks as soon as I got it—
so, of course, it won't be of
any use to anyone, else."
YOUNG FOLKS group of
City of Hope is the Ilyse
Simon Guild...but with
same purpose in mind...to
fight catastrophic dis-
eases... Guild's Disco
Dance, this Sunday, at
Raleigh House's Giraffe,
will have WDRQ dj, Doug
Banks, plus items to auc-
tion off...Still time for more

0489 or Lori Simon, 855-

4-YEAR-OLD Laurie
Zager, daughter of Norma
and Michael Zager, in-
quired about the upcoming
bridal shower of future
aunt, Linda Meltzer (mar-
rying Marty Weitz), and
asked, "Mommy, at Auntie
Linda's shower, is everyone
going to take a shower to-
gether?"

BEST BET Of The Week-
end... Square Dance and
Hayride tomorrow nite by
Perfection Masoni-c
Lodge...with car caravan to
ranch in Milford...meeting
7:15 p.m. in front of Cun-
ningham's at Lincoln Cen-
ter, 10 1/2 and Greenfield.
WHILE IN FLORIDA,
Paul Marx, wearing his fish-
ing license on the back of
his hat (he wears the same
hat year after after year
for good luck) took 6-year-
old daughter Jeanne fishing
with him... Paul wasn't
doing so good and finally
little Jeanne suggested,
Daddy, turn your hat
around so the fish can see
your license.".. (You
wouldn't believe it, but the
fish suddenly started bit-
ing!)
MANNY SCHULTZ wears
a hearing aid...and when he
entered a cab last week, it
attracted the driver's atten-
tion.."Them things any
good?" he asked... and
Manny replied that he'd be
quite lost without it...
"Must be tough to be
' deaf," sympathized the
cabby. "Aw well," he philos-
ophized, "nearly all of us
have something the matter
with us. Take me for ex-
ample. I can hardly see."

Having An Affair?
so used to getting up early
(6 a.m. for 38 years) that
Sundays are no different...
tees off at 7:15...Harold
always looks great, thanks
to wife Dorothy...They're
the father and mother of
dental doc Larry Haber.
Can't remember who told
us this, "Where do sheep
get their hair cut? At the
baa baa shop"...Ben Lutz
looking the same... many
who remember him from
those Bowl-O-Drome days
on Dexter wonder how he
does it...A1 Silver suave
with a mustache...Builder
Jack Singer looking real
good...one of nicest guys
around.
Harry Spoon always wear-
ing a cap...Other one he has
is a museum piece, but
wife Millie wouldn't dare
throw it out...Don't know
any radio personality with
more commercials than
Bob Allison, WWJ's "Ask
Your Neighbor"
host...Ruben Zissman okay
now after three-week hospi-
tal siege...Jack Goodman
making folks laugh with his
staight-faced joke telling
and tales of yeste-
ryears...Jack should have
been on stage.
Miles Zemon with the
kind of looks that never
seem to change... Nate
Trager as ever with the
suave, well-groomed mus-
tache...Leonard Fink in a
not-hard-to-notice- sports
jacket...Nice guy CPA Sam
Geller everybody's friend
with a smile..
Reminder to busy car
washes—when putting in
gas, get the cap back
on...same holds true for
some gas stations with in-
experienced help.
LOOKING BACK ON Col-
umns Of Yesteryears...
JULY 15, 1949... "Little
Willie Ziskind, 'Mayor of
South Haven', was the butt
of a plot that would deprive
him of his tenderly-cared-
for mustache...He still has
it on...but with no thanks to
at least five erstwhile
strongmen who discovered
that wee Willie would fight
for his life...rather than
give up one hair on his che-
rished lip specimen...Next
time he returned, Willie
had on leash the boxer-bull-
dog owned by Al Fen-
kell...It was as big as he
was...and the question ap-
peared as to who was lead-
ing who around."
SEPT. 2, 1949... "Talk
about the William's Shift
and the Mullin's Shift in
baseball...the boys at Cen-
tral Field now have a Silber
shift for whenever Leonard
Silber is at bat...Four out-
fielders!...Was tried on him
recently for first time but
with little success...Leonard
hit the ball far over the cen-
ter fielder's head for a
home run...Now they're
thinking of putting the
catcher out there
also...probably to sit on top
of the fence:"
