In the death of Rabbi Moses Lehrman, Ameri-
can Jewry loses a distinguished leader, a dedicated
Zionist, a scholar whose life was devoted to the ad-
vancement of JewiSh education and major cultural
projects.
For Greater Detroit Jewry the loss is especially
great because he had exerted great influence in sup-
port of the most vital causes and given untiring
labor in defense of Jewish rights and the advance-
ment of the highest goals of his people.
He was a Zionist in every sense of the word, and
his humanitarian- principles embraced those of a
faiths. Honored many times as a citizen, his co
freres in the ministry, rabbis and ministers of othe,
denominations, looked to him for guidance and lead-
ership. In defense of civil rights and religious free-
dom he was a courageous advocate of justice.
Many important cultural functions were in-
troduced in his congregation, And Bnai Moshe ben-
efited immensely from the lectures and study groups
he arranged for the benefit of community as well as
congregational members.
He was looked to for many years for leadership in
the United Hebrew Schools. and the teaching staffs
admired his cooperation which elevated the struc-
ture of the community school system.
An orator, a participant in the ranks of the move-
ments to which he dedicated himself as a volunteer
as well as a leader, he had the admiration of all who
had the privilege of associating with him in the
tasks of giving strength to Jewish legacies.
Blessed he his memory:
