Nazi Rally Thwarted in Skokie

CHICAGO (JTA)—The
threat of violence between
Nazi and Jewish groups
was the basis for legally hal-
ting a proposed Nazi demon-
stration April 30 and May 1
in Skokie, a Chicago suburb
with a Jewish population of
40,000, an estimated 7,000 of
them Holocaust survivors.

Over 45 Years
Of
Moving Experience

In the face of court rul-
ings barring a Sunday after-
noon demonstration at the
Skokie Village Hall, a
group from the National So-
cialist Party of America at-
tempted to demonstrate a
day earlier. By 1 p.m. Satur-
day there were approx-
imately 1,000 counter-dem-
onstrators at the Village
Hall apparently _eager to
have the Nazis appear.
Some counter-demonstra-
tors. seemed disappointed.

REMEMBER HOW YOU LOVED
CAMP TANUGA?
YOUR CHILDREN

Bernard Friedman opened CAMP TANUGA in 1952, with the idea that kids who learn to
cope with nature grow up to contend well with life's challenges. The concept has been
successful, as year after year young campers return. Friedman has been president of the
Michigan Camping Association.
CAMP TANUGA has facilities for 200 youngsters. There are usually 10 boys or girls per
cabin, with two counselors. The food is good & nutritious. A doctor and nurse are on the
premises at all times.
There is whatever activity a child wants, carefully supervised and planned so that no
youngster ever feels left- out, but is still given time to learn, time to grow at his own pace.
CAMP TANUGA is the place to grow this summer.

Peres Opposes Army Criticism

JERUSALEM, -(JTA)—
Defense Minister Shimon
Peres praised the efficiency
of the armed services and,
while conceding that cer-
tain short-comings cited in
a report by State Comptrol-
ler Itzhak Nebenzahl last
week existed,. he stressed
that they must be put "into
perspective."

Peres lashed out at "cer-
tain politicians" who, he
said, were trying to use the
report as ammunition in
the election campaign. He
charged that the comptrol-
ler deliberately selected for
inspection certain units that
the army acknowledged
were below par because

they were "still in the proc-
ess of formation."

He said he did not dispute
the comptroller's right and
duty to scrutinize- the army,
but stressed that the army
itself regularly inspected
all units and-found the vast
majority of them satisfac-
