Louis Miller, 68

Louis Miller, founder of
the United States Pipe and
Supply Co. of Michigan
Ave.. died May 2 at age 68.
Born in Tonawanda,
N.Y., Mr. Miller lived 66
years in Detroit. He found-
ed his company 30 years
ago and retired in 1975. He
was active in' the Knights of
Pythias and in Jewish or-
ganizations. He resided at
17240 Burgess. Detroit.
He is survived by three
sisters, Mrs. Bessie Schein,
Mrs. Lee (Sarah) Seiden-
feld of Des Moines, Iowa,
and Mrs. Libbie Laurens.

Jacob Schreier

Jacob Schreier, president
of the Gold Star Products,
restaurant equipment and
supply company, died April
28 at age 78.
Born in Poland, Mr.
Schreier came to the U.S.
in 1921. Besides holding the
presidency of the company,
he also was one of its
owners.
Mr. Schreier was a life
member of the board of di-
rectors of the Jewish Home
for Aged, a lifelong mem-
ber of the Labor Zionist Al-
liance, and a member of
the Detroit Chapter of the
American Society for Tech-
nion, Cong. Beth Abraham-
Hillel and Music Study
Club. He also was an origi-
nal member of the Greener
Vinkel, a Yiddish cultural
group active in the 1950s.
Mr. Schreier. who resided
at 31156 Huntley Sq. E., Bir-
mingham, is survived by
two sons, Bernard P. and
Aaron; a brother, Harry;
and 11 grandchildren.

Joseph Messer

The Third Lateran Coun-
cil (1179) prohibited Chris-
tians from serving in Jew-
ish homes, and urged the
secular authorities not to
confiscate the property of
converts from Judaism.

Joseph Messer, retired
founder of J. Messer Whole-
sale Shoes on W. Jefferson,
died May 1 at age 93.
Born in Russia, Mr. Mes-
ser lived 60 years in Detroit
prior to moving to Holly-
wood, Fla., at age 73. He
was a founding member of
the Pliskow Family Club
named in memory of his
mother. Rebecca Pliskow.
Mr. Messer was a sports en-
thusiast and played semi-
professional football as a
youth.
He is survived by his
wife, Ida; a son, Martin: a
daughter, Mrs. Violet Lang-
er; a brother, Kay of Ham-
ilton, Ontario, Canada; and
four grandchildren.
