there was a double mean-

Caiaphus himself did not un-

"That was -the turning
point in Christ's life,' Car-

TEL AVIV—Former For-
eign Minister Abba Eban,
reiterating that he had not
violated Israeli currency
laws, pleaded with his
Labor Party last week not
to stand idly by while
rumors about him were
spread by what he de-
nounced as irresponsible
civil servants and journal-
ists.
Eban addressed a caucus
of candidates of the Labor
Alignment running for Kne-
set in the general election
set for May 17. His appear-
ance was apparently
prompted by reports attri-
butred to senior sources in
the Finance Ministry that
he would probably have to
stand trial on charges that
he engaged in currency
transactions in the United
States and Britain that vio-
lated Israeli law.
There was silence
throughout Eban's presenta-
tion, and he was applauded
mildly when he finished.
Thus far no party lead-
ership has spoken up for
him. The leadership seems

Bomb Injures 27
on Bus in Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA)—A
bomb exploded on a bus in
southern Israel Sunday in-
juring 27 people, 14 of
whom were hospitalized
with injuries described as
light to moderate. Four re-
quired surgery.
The bus, carrying Israeli
workers from Kiryat Gat to
Beersheba, had just
dropped off about 50 Arab
the West
workers from

Bank at Kiryat Gat.
Police promptly rounded
up the Arabs who were pas-
sengers on the bus for ques-
tioning. They are trying to
determine the nature of the
explosives used. It is believ-
ed the bomb had a timing
device since the explosion
occurred 10 minutes after
the Arab passengers had
alighted. The bombing was
the first terrorist incident
of its kind in Israel in
several months.
Some 35 Arabs from Hebr-
on who left the bus before
the bomb exploded were
questioned by Israeli police

communities around the
country had called his of-
fice to express concern
about the White House and
offered to send Carter mate-
rial dealing with Judaism
and early Christianity so
that the President would
have unbiased sources for
use in future Bible study
classes. Tanenbaum said
the Whitt_ House reaction
was positive.
