CROWNING THE 73-
story Detroit Plaza Hotel in
the Renaissance Center
downtown, is The Summit,
recently-opened as the
world's largest rooftop
counter-rotating restaurant-
lounge complex...It is
reached after walking into
one of two exterior glass-
enclosed elevators that
whisk people directly to the
rooftop region at 1,000 feet
per minute.
Guests enter The Summit
(71, 72 and 73rd floors) on a
stationary level, between
two counter-revolving plat-
forms, where cocktail pods
are suspended in mid-
air...Seating on this level
totals 154...The top-most re-
volving level seats 274 for
cocktails while the lower
: counter-rotating level seats
272 in a well-appointed
room.
Mirrored tiles. warm
earth colors, large wall
hangings and a wide-range
panoramic view give The
Summit a feeling of open-
ness...Yet partitions, which
separate groups of tables,
provide a relatively secludt
ed dining atmosphere.
Managed by Felipe Aram-
-hula, a native of Mekico
City and former manager
of Western International's
. Space Needle Restaurant in
Seattle, Wash. , The Summit
is open for lunch and dinner
featuring a - varied continen-
tal menu...Reservations are
necessary.

.are very delicious...No
limit to this wonderful las-

a- tip and try these poppy-

runs out of them very fast.
NOTE TO BOSSES at Ar-
thur Treacher's Fish and
Chips. on Greenfield in Oak
Park...Doesn't look too
good having your help take
cash and then dipping fish
in the batter with those
same fingers...The polite
young help should be told
what they are doing
wrong...Handling food and
cash is a very big restau-
rant no no.
WHERE ARE YOU tak-
ing mother this Sunday for
brunch, buffet or sit-down
dinner...Oodles of places
have a lot to offer...and at
prices for the kids
too... Restaurants will be
crowded, so it is advised

EVERYTHING IS now
prepared to order at
Squire's Table, as excellent
chef Rene Motittet, a gradu-
ate of the Culinary Institute
in Lausanne, Switzerland,
and former number two
chef at the very famous
Ernie's in San Francisco,
takes over the, kitchen of
the popular Walled Lake
dining spot.
Rene. who was head chef
and chef de cuisine at a
couple of top Detroit hotels,
is doing both lunch and din-
ners.
BEAU JACKS on W.
Maple, just west of Tele-
graph, the former West-
erner Beef Buffet that has
been transformed like
magic into a beautiful, in-
timate sit-down restaurant
for food and Oinks, has sud-
denly become a big conver-
sation piece...To Jack Coch-
ran, owner with son Gary,
"It is already far above any-
thing we ever hoped for!"
The biggest. comment. ac-
cording to Jack, is "We
cant, believe it. Your prices
are too cheap."
Joel Jacobs says that
"Beau Jack's has the best
ground_ round any-
where."...The hamburgers
he talks about are all pure
beef and molded by hand.
Some people who have
gone to Beau Jack's and
stood in line. left saying
they would never come
back because of it...But
couple days later they were
at the restaurant
again...which has to tell
you something about Jack
and Gary's new spot.

Jack is on top of the kitch-
en at all times...He was a
navy cook in the South Pa-
cific during World War II
and holds a presidential ci-
tation for quality of food
served during adverse con-
ditions...8,000 men three
times a day_that's 24,000
Meals daily.

Beau Jack's has been
open only six weeks and
business continues to go
up...Besides the food, r em-
phasis on courtesy '''and
pleasantnes-s from the mo-
ment you enter are basic
qualities very much wel-
comed.
NEW NOSHERIE on 12
Mile and Northwestern,
opened just in February of
this year, has been
closed... Reason given by
one of the owners. Earle
Mostyn, is that expenses •.
were •greater than the in-
come...He is sole owner of
the Lincoln Center Nosh-
erie, which, . Earle says,
will continue to oper-
ate...Two deals for its sale
have fallen through and he
says he will keep the deli.
