Jewish Women's Council Head
to Address Installation Lunch
Esther R. Landa of Salt
Lake City, Utah, National
President of the National
Council of Jewish Women
will be in Detroit for the
May 9 Installation Lunch-
eon of the Greater Detroit
Section, National Council of
Jewish Women at the De-
troit Plaza Hotel. The pro-
gram will begin at noon.
Mrs. Landa will speak on
"Women's Changing Role
and Its Effect on Family
Life."
Mrs. Landa was a mem-
ber of the Salt Lake City
Board of Education, vice
chairman of the Utah State
Board of Education and co-
founder of Project Head
Start in Utah. Her work
with the Head Start pro-
gram garnered her an in-
vitation to the White House
in 1965 and a position as
consultant with the Bureau
of Indian Services, Univer-
sity of Utah, planning Head
Start programs for Indian
reservations throughout the
West.
From 1964 to 1969, Mrs.
Landa was director of
women's programs in the
Division of Continuing Edu-
cation at the university.
Her most recent appoint-
ment is to serve as head of
a women's rights task force
for the National Jewish
Community Relations Advi-
sory Council, the governing
body for the Jewish commu-
nity councils of the country.
Mrs. Landa was a mem-
ber of the 1967 NCJW Task
Force to Israel (which re-
sulted in the establishment
of the NCJW Research In-
stitute for Innovation in
Education) and chairman
of the Salt Lake City United
Jewish Appeal in 1973-74.

for the Greater Detroit
Detroiter Named
to National Body
Josephine Weiner of Hun-
tington Woods has been
named a member of the
Women in Community
Service Corp., a coalition of
five organizations—Church
Women United, National
Council of Catholic Women,
National Council of Jewish
Women, National Council of
Negro Women and Ameri-
can GI Forum—dedicated
to coordinating programs of
community welfare to com-
bat poverty.
Ms. Weiner is a former
NCJW president and cur-
rent WICS president.

Landscape Degree
HAIFA—A new course of
study leading to the Bache-
lor of Science degree in
landscape architecture will
start in the coming academ-
ic year (1977-78) in the fac-
ulty of architecture and
town planning of the Tech-
nion - Israel Institute of
Technology.
The course, the first of its
kind in Israel, will provide
landscape architects with
the latest techniques and
ideas in this subject. Gradu-
ates will be able to work
both as independent plan-
ners and as members of
planning teams.
