Yemen's Jews
Number 2,000

FLO LEVY and JANET FEINBERG

TEL AVIV . ZINS)—A
Christian missionary return-
ing from a visit to Yemen
reported that only 2,000
Jews remain in that coun,_
try, living mostly in small
villages near the Saudi Ara-
bian border.
The missionary said the
Jews are treated well by
their neighbors. No Jews
have returned to Yemen fol-
lowing the much-publicized
appeal for their return last
year. However, Jews are
visiting the country again
for the first time since the
establishment of Israel.

Gayle and Robert Flet-
cher Allen struck oil with
the application of their diet-
ary skills to a compilation
of recipes for the outdoor
gourmets.
"The Complete Recrea-
tional Vehicle Cookbook for
Campers, R.V.'s and Motor
Homes" (Celestial Arts
Press) is uniquely useful
and serves a purpose well
fulfilled by the two experts.
The very idea of this cook-
book makes it a pioneering
project for outdoor cooking.
The scores of recipes are
applicable for all, but the
kashrut observer must, of
course, be careful. It is pos-
sible to use meats with
eggs, but the Jewish cook
will have to provide the
kosher products suggested
by the Allens.
This applies to all the
other gourmet ideas in this
cookbook.
The book provides com-
prehensive checklists that
cover planning, provision-
ing, basic and optional
equipment, and a conven-
ient list of tasks to attend
to before leaving. There are
recipes for more than 200
dishes, ranging from snack
foods to marinades and
quick sauces, plus breads.
beverages and a variety of
simple desserts.
The authors also include
do z ens of suggestions for
bridging the equipment and
space gap. and offer tips
for storing, cleaning up.
doing the laundry. saving
space. and keeping foods

fresh.

Rep. Jordan Lauds Israel, U.S. Jews

NEW YORK—Rep. Bar-
bara Jordan (D-Texas)
speaking on U.S.-Israel rela-
tions recently stated,
"When it comes to the state
of Israel, we have common
ties that will not be se-
vered. We have a special
relationship that must be
nurtured. That relationship,
very simply, is rooted in
our common belief in de-
mocracy. That relationship
is rooted in our -willingness
to preserve, protect and de-
fend democracy wherever
it is, and it is in Israel.
"The dream of Zionism
and the existence of the
state of Israel will not be
swept into the dint bin of
history because of the UN
anti-Zionism resolution.
Much more is required to
extinguish the dream that
we have about democracy,
and much more than a reso-
lution is required to destroy
a country.
"As an American, I regr-
et this resolution, but I
don't let that piece of paper
deter my commitment to
the survival of freedom and
liberty and democracy in Is,
rael. That resolution is both-
ersome, • it is a problem.
But it doesn't have any-
thing to do with the sub-
stance of the content of our
belief.
