Michigan area leaders in industry and labor held a
luncheon meeting recently in preparation for the national
tribute dinner honoring J.C. Turner, general president of
the International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO,
to benefit State of Israel Bonds. Attending the meeting
were, from left: Dr. Arieh Plotkin, former officer in the
intelligence corps of Israel's Defense Forces; luncheon
chairman Keith Sober, business manager of the Inter-
national Union of Operating Engineers, Local 324; national
tribute committee member Thomas E. Dailey, president of
R.E. Dailey and Co.; Robert Ross, business manager of
local 547; Robert W. Siegel, attorney and chairman of the
Metropolitan Detroit State of Israel Bonds Pension and
Profit Sharing Division; and James A. Jaffee, vice presi-
dent and chief executive officer of Parke Davis and Co.,
and national tribute committee member. Turner will re-
ceive the state of Israel's Prime Minister's Medal "for his
lifetime of service to the American labor movement and
humanitarian causes and his support of Israel."

Oak Park Mayor David

Lions White Cane week in
the city. The Lions Club is 4

and Scientists Division of
the Jewish Welfare Feder-
ation,- has been elected to
the National Academy of
Engineering and appointed
chairman of the National
Materials Advisory Board.
Harwood is director of
the Materials Sciences Labo-
ratory, Engineering and Re-
search Staff, of the Ford
Motor Co.
Harwood is on the board
of the United Hebrew
Schools and is on the Cul-
ture and Education and Na-
tional Agencies divisions of
the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign. He is a past presi-
dent of Cong. Beth Shalom
and of the Detroit Chapter
of the American Technion
Society. Harwood serves on
the Technion national board
of directors.
He is on the advisory
board of the U.S.-Israel
Binational Council for Indus-
trial Research and Devel-
opment. He is on the board
of the Michigan Association
of Governing Boards and is
an adjunct professor at
