MONDAY THRU SATURDAY NIGHTS

IT'S A SORRY STATE
that most Mexican restau-
rants had to suffer because
of the recent unfortunate in-
cident...The media, radio es-
pecially, took hold and grap-
pled onto every word as if
it were glue.
True, carelessness was ap-
parent in this isolated
case...but for years people
have been eating Mexican
food and nothing has hap-
pened...When it did (could
have been in any type of
restaurant) the news media
blew it to such proportion,
many times saying only
"Mexican restaurant", so
much that it automatically
threw a scare into diners-
out folks.
The tuna fish fright of a
few years back wasn't
local, and still didn't get as
much coverage.
There are so many very
good Mexican eating
spots ...very clean...very de-
pendable...and worthy of pa-
tronage from lovers of Mexi-
can food.
One such extra fine Mexi-
can restaurant is the new
El Camino on Plymouth, a
block west of Farmington
Rd. in Livonia...Open only
since last August, it has al-
ready made a large mark
as one of Metropolitan De-
troit's best...serving elegant
MexiCan cuisine at its fin-
est.
What was once all farm
land with a little farm
house on it, has become an
all new, large free-standing
white Spanish hacienda-
looking building...The lav-
ish interior, seating 165, is
a thing of beauty... with
decor of Mayan civilization
culture... Mayans made up
the head Mexican tribe of

yesteryears... El Camino's
main dining room is called

cook at the wonderful Mexi-
can Gardens and the Mexi-
can Village...In the kitchen
all day and night, seven
days a week, is his brother
Leonel...and helping on the
weekends is brother Sigi-
ferdo...The dishwashers and
other food handlers are all
from Raul's hometown of
Sabinas Hildago, Mexico,
between Monterey and La-
redo.
