Vaad Dinner to Cite Founders

The memory of three of
the 10 rabbis who formed
the Council of .Orthodox
Rabbis of Greater Detroit
(Vaad Harabonim) will be
honored at the council's
47th anniversary dinner, 6
p.m. May 1, at the Jewish
Community Center.
The evening will be dedi-
cated to honoring. the work
of Rabbis Joseph Eisenman,
Joseph Thumin and Moses
Fisher.
Rabbi Eisenman_was the
spiritual leader of Congs.
Tefilo Emanuel and Bnai
Jacob as well as a presi-
dent of the Concil of Ortho-
dox Rabbis. In addition, he
served numerous chari-
table, religious and Jewish
scholastic organizations
both here and in Europe
and Israel during his life-
time.
Rabbi Fisher headed
Cong. Bnai Moshe while
also serving such organiza-
tions a-s Beth Yehuda
Schools and authoring a
number of published essays
on Jewish laws and tradi-
tion.
Born in Austria in 1898,
Rabbi Thumin became the
religious leader of Cong.
Adath Israel prior to his ar-
rival in Detroit in 1915 tr,

serve as spiritual leader of
Beth Abraham Synagogue.
His lifetime of service to
the Jewish community in-
cluded organizing of Young
Israel of Detroit.
