OF 12 MILE IN THE FARRELL SHOPPING CENTER JN/Expires April 15 FULL MANY PEOPLE WHO go to Como's Restaurant on Woodward and Nine Mile Rd. in Ferndale think of it as their own personal dis- vovery and are reluctant to sha-re their "find"...However, they would be most surprised to know it is a favorite Italian eating place for a lot of folks. Como's isn't a big place...seats only 90 people...but it has a large reputation... People come from all over to enjoy the homey, family-oriented at- mosphere...16 years ago, George and Sicilia Grego (then married less than a year,) opened Como's with seating for 64 people...Four years ago the bathrooms were pushed to another _ rear sector, a liquor license was acquired and this won- derful couple had taken over a former cab stand to expand their restaurant as today...into two rooms. No fancy frills...Tiffany lamp shades, stained glass windows, stone walls in one room, paneling in another, wall gas lights and a pizza booth with outside window for toss-up watchers. Como's is a family affair through...Sicilia and her fa- ther, Jim Passalacqua, are in the kitchen...her mother, Mimi, cooks for holi- days...George's parents, George Sr. and Madonna, work Tuesday and Wednes- day to give him and Sicilia two days off...Their son, George III, 16, makes pizza, and daughter, Ma- donna, 12, is cashier on weekends. We were there with Mari- lyn and Sid Frumkin...and even our waitress, Mimi Usher, was a rela- tive...Very pleasant, smil- ing and graciously ef- ficient...Mimi is a niece to Sicilia and George. She brought us a tasty dish of mostaccioli...then veal sauteed with mush- rooms, tomato sauce and wine...This was de- licious...Next in line were a couple of delectable items you won't find in very many Italian restau- rants...Jumbo shrimp fried in a sesame seed bat- ter...and boneless chicken topped with tomato and cheese sauce...Naturally a GREATEST VALUE I COUPON DINNERS INCLUDING • SPAGHETTI • BAKED SPAGHETTI • LASAGNA • VEAL OR EGGPLANT • PARMIGIANA • MANICOTTI O • RAVIOLI C • FRIED CHICKEN • FISH & CHIPS EAT IN OR TAKE OUT ANY PIZZA ! i ipTle:3RE OR ROUND BAR-B-Q EMBER RIBS O 2 ONLY AT MAMA ZELDA'S • MEAT SAUCE • RED CLAM • WHITE CLAM • MUSHROOM & GREEN PEPPER • BUTTER GARLIC SLAB I ION. CARRY OUT 559-8717 RASKIN glass of chianti red wine and garlic bread...Then some creamy spumoni...not a slice but the kind you take out with a scoop. You've probably passed Como's many times, but went on by to perhaps some other restaurant...Whatever the reason may have been, not to have tried this place was a mistake...There is nothing quite like good Ital- ian home cooking...and Como's reminds you of this...The prices are most reasonable...very good for family dining...and the food is a taste treat. Discover Como's for your- self...and see why so many people kind of hoard it for themselves...or so they think. NOTE TO...Sid Hud- son...in Las Vegas ...Next time you're in Detroit, April 19, pianist-songster Carl Steger at Jakks on Greenfield and 10 Mile will do that favorite for you..."You're My Every- thing"...Carl couldn't find the sheet music anywhere so made his own for the first time. KIT COHEN at the Raven Gallery on Green- field and 12 Mile, has Josh White Jr. entertaining through April 24. THE CROWD WAS small...there was no ad book at the affair for the first time in its existence and Shenandoah Country Club had another off night on food and service. But the people who attend- ed Detroit Lodge No.55, Knights of Pythias dinner- dance, enjoyed themselves in spite- of every- thing...After all what if the food and service was bad, and "drinks" were $1.50 without the lodge getting any of it?...The get-together was to honor new Chan- cellor Commander Herman Osnos and his line of offi- cers ... F u n was the thing...even though Shenan- doah and its unsmiling wait- resses didn't think so...Ever have a soggy salad with the dressing already in it...no choice of your own?...Or one roll per person limit?...You did if you at- tended this affair...But what the heck...half the people didn't eat their food anyhow. LAYER CAKE is the name of a drink also... 1,3 creme de cacao, 1 /3 apricot brandy and 1/3 cream ... pour carefully into liqueur glass so that the ingredients do not mix...Place cherry on top...Chill mixture in glass. NEW FEATURE has been unveiled at Buddy's Pizza, E. Six Mile and Con, ant...strictly for the young- sters...every Sunday, 12:30 to 3...Free caricatures of the kids. REGARDING THE pro- posed saccharin ban, Diet Workshop has set forth its stance in a position paper that will be part of the offi- cial record of the House of Representatives committee hearing on the Delaney Amendment...In it, Lois Lindauer, international di- rector, notes that "It is common sense to realize that the 80 years of saccha- rin use in this country has never been connected with cancer.
