Investment Area

NEW YORK (ZINS)—Ac-
cording to Business Week,
Israel has become an attrac-
tive investment area.
A survey carried out by
the magazing showed that
in 1976 Israel was 15th on
the list of foreign countries
favored by investors, corn-
pared with 19th place five
years earlier. Israel is now
in about the same class as
Switzerland, and is ahead
of the Phillipines, Sweden,
Scotland, Singapore, and
Norway.
The study also revealed
that American capital
views Israel as a better in-
vestment risk than Saudi
Arabia or Iraq, despite
their petrodollar wealth.

Friend of Zionism

A

grove of 1,000 trees, in the
International Women's
Forest in Galilee, has
been dedicated by the
Jewish National Fund in
memory 'of the British
novelist George Eliot (pen
name of Marian Evans-
Cross 1819-1880). In her
book, "Daniel Deronda,"
she spoke out in favor of
the thesis of political
Zionism.

for the mass executions

providing information that
led to the victims being
seized for execution. Men-
ten also is charged with-
being a Dutch citizen in the
service of the enemy.
Louis Van Heynigen, Men-
ten's new lawyer, an-
nounced that he will call 60
witnesses to be heard by
the examining magistrate
before the start of the ac-
tual trial.
Van Heynigen told the
hearing that he believed
Menten was innocent and
-that the - charges against
him had already passed the
statute of limitations.
Menten said all the evi-
dence against him should
be thrown out because it
had been given under coer-
cion or by Soviet KGB
agents. __

Soviet Film Bias

VIENNA (ZINS)—Among
the scenes in the new anti-
Semitic propaganda- ' film
being shown in the Soviet
Union is one where the au-
dience hears gun fire and
its told, "This is how the
Jewess Dora Kaplan tried
to assassinate Lenin."
' In another scene, accord-
ing -to Reuven Wigodsky,
who left the Soviet Union
only a few weeks ago, Nazi
tanks are shown invading
Russia during World War II
and the narrator says,
"Jewish capital helped Hit-
ler's rise to power."

AMSTERDAM (JTA )—
Pieter Menten, the 77-year-
old Dutch millionaire art
collector who has been ac-
cused of murdering Jews
and others in Poland during
World War II, was officially
indicted by a special tribun-
al Monday of "crimes
against humanity."
Menten, who was extra-
dited from Switzerland
where he fled shortly be-
fore he was scheduled to be
arrested, had to be indicted
Monday because of a Dutch
law that says no one can be
detained for more than 102
days without a charge. His
trial will be held May 6 to
give both the prosecution
and defense time to pre-
pare for what is expected
to be a complicated trial.
Menten was charged with
the murder of Polish citi-
zens, mostly Jews in the
Lemberg area in 1941, spe-
cifically in Podhorodoce on
July 7 and Uryce Aug. 27.
The area is now part -of the
Soviet Union and Dutch offi-
cials recently interviewed
witnesses there. s
It is also charged that
Menten rounded up victims
