Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Tamler of Oak Park have dedica-
ted the Dorothy and Irwin Tamler Forest in the American
Bicentennial National Park in the Judean Hills near Je-
rusalem. The dedication took place during their recent trip
to Israel. The forest was planted through the Jewish Na-
tional Fund. Tamler is a former president of Cong. Bnai
Moshe and is a member of the Zionist Organization of De-
troit, Akiva Day School, the United Hebrew Schools and
the Hebrew Benevolent Society. He is an active supporter
of the Allied Jewish Campaign. Mrs. Tamler also is a lead-
ing member of Hadassah and the Bnai Moshe Sisterhood.

Some 500 Jews live in Sing-
apore. Most of them came
from Iraq and India, though
there is a minority from
England and Europe.
Their style of prayer is
Sephardic and their lan-
guage is English. According
to the head of the commu-
nity, Isaac Ben-Zakin, there
is a minyan every morning
and evening. On Shabat,
three or four minyanim con-
vene in the synagogue, and
even more on festivals.
Most of the Jews in Sing-
apore are engaged in trade,
primarily in textiles, dia-
monds and shoes. They are
for the most part in a com-
fortable economic position.
Jews have been residents in
Singapore for 150 years,
and have developed a good
tradition of communal life.
The inhabitants of Sing-
apore treat any religious
tradition with tolerance and
respect.

Menten, who is being held
in a prison hospital, said
the book would pronounce
him guilty without a trial.
But Judge W. Borgerhoff
Mulder said that as a result
of articles in Accent last
year most Dutch people con-
sider him guilty of war
crimes and public opinion
would not- change whether
the book was banned or not.
Menten is believed to
have been involved in the
massacre of Polish Jews by
a German SS battalion in
eastern Poland. He fled Hol-
land last November hours
before police came to his
home to question him. He
was extradited from Swit-
zerland but has not been
charged yet.
Israel, New York
Exchange Students
NEW YORK—Thirty stu-
dents and two teachers who
represent the pilot group of
the first exchange program
of New York City students
and Israeli students, will
leave for Israel April 11.
The students will attend
classes in Israel where they
will be paired with an Is-
raeli. student to live with.
The Israeli counterparts
have already completed the
program in New York and
are back in Israel.
The program was devel-
oped and realized through
the efforts of Isaiah Robin-
son of the New York Board
of Education and Dr. Dan
Ronan of the Israeli Min-
istry of Education.
