It is as founder of Detroit
Friends of Yeshiva Univer-
sity that Goldberg has
gained national recognition.
He was 'worked untiringly
for Israel Bonds, Jewish
Home for Aged, Jewish Na-
tional Fund and the Zionist
Organization of Detroit.
Prior to his retirement to
Florida, Goldberg was a
member of Detroit's Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, Cong. Bnai
David and Cong. Mishkan
Israel Nusach H'Ari. He is
affiliated with most of the
major national Jewish or-
ganizations.
Goldberg came with his
family to the U.'S. from Rus-
sia at age 10. At 14 he was
an errand boy, at 16 he
worked for Maxwell Motor
Co. and later began to sell
newspapers.
In 1921 he started his own
newspaper business on
Woodward and Monroe and
in 1934 became a wholesale
distributor. That is when he
formed a strong friendship
with the Annenbergs.
He worked for Moses L.
Annenberg and upon his
marriage to Florence
Lafer, the elder Annenberg
gave him the local agency
for his papers as a wedding
gift. He has continued his
friendship with the family
through the former U.S.
Ambassador Walter H. An-
nenberg.

Robert St. John, inter-
nationally famed author
and war correspondent will
be the guest speaker at the
11th annual Bnai Brith Pres-
idents Brunch to take place
10 a.m. May 1 at Adat Sha-
lom Synagogue. The brunch
is being held in cooperation
with the Jewish National
Fund.
St. John has visited Israel

more than 30 times.-

raeli wars and has received
the Medallion of Valor from
the government of Israel.
He , is the author of 20
books, most of them on Is-
rael, including "Shalom
Means Peace,' describing
the birth of the Jewish
state, and "Tongue of the
Prophets, the biography of
Eliezer Ben Yehuda, father
of modern Hebrew.
He is the only author who
has written biographies of
both David Ben-Gurion and
Nasser. One of his best
known works is his biogra-
phy of Abba Eban.
This annual event will
honor the presidents of the
men's and women's coun-
cils, and the presidents of
the 24 lodges and 26 chap-
ters and units, as well as
the tree and tribute chair-
men.
Admission to the brunch
is by the planting of two or
more trees per person. The
