At an oneg Shabat last
Saturday at the home of
Mrs. Samuel Crohn, Leon-
ard N. Simons told of the
honor that was accorded
exactly 30 years ago to one
of the most eminent Hadas-
sah women in the land, the
late Dora (Mrs. Joseph H.)
Ehrlich.
Simons was chairman of
an event at which $75,000
was raised for the estab-
lishment of the Dora Ehrl-
ich Wing at the Hadassah
Medical Center in Jerusa-
lem.
In his address to the Ha-
dassah women, Simons re-
called the many prominent
Detroiters who served on
his committee to Jewish the

woman who was for dec-
ades respected as the out-
standing woman leader in
the city and one of the out-

Simons brought with him
enlarged pages of The ish
News dated Oct. 31, Nov. 21
and 28, 1947, publicizing the
Dora Ehrlich event. He also
displayed enlarged photos
of the event and presented
them as gifts to Hadassah.
Also recalled by pioneer
Hadassah women are the
sewing circles that were
conducted at the Willis and
Brush Shaarey Zedek social
hall in the late 1920s.
Some of the pioneers, it is
recalled, played important
roles in the Allied Jewish
Campaigns, among them
Mrs. Maurice Landau, Mrs.
William Isenberg and Mrs.
Max Frank.

Mrs. Frank was among
the past presidents of Ha-
dassah who served on the
board of governors of the
campaigner.
and was an active campaig
ner.

Among the notable pio-
neers of Hadassah in De-
troit is Mrs. Ralph (Sally)
Davidson, the oldest living
past president. Before her
presidency of the Detroit
Hadassah she was active in
the Zionist Organization of
Detroit, then the Detroit Zi-
onist District of the Ameri-
can Zionist Federation, and
served as secretary of._ the
Zionist District when Dr. A.
M. Hershman was presi-
dent.

Of nostalgic interest to
Detroit Hadassah members,
which came to light this
week, is a note about the
local Hadassah's beginning
struggles for support of
their cause:
It was Dora Ehrlich who
started rummage sales on
12th St. A project under-
taken for a short time, and
the idea came from Mrs.
Herman (Evelyn) August,
who brought this fund-rais-
ing scheme from Chicago.
Last week's Detroit Ha-
dassah story inadvertently
omitted the name of Mrs.
Julius Meskin, president of
the Huntington Woods
Group. In addition, Mrs.
Saulsoti is Mrs. Saul Saul-
son. •
