DINNER - BEST WISHES FOR A VERY HAPPY PASSOVER ■ Frillay,:, 4014 NW 01 ■•11111!•10 4 961 -5175 Steak House is a place you won't want to miss...it's the former Banyan Tree Restau- rant on Long Lake Rd. and Livernois in Troy...Same elegant atmosphere with a few changes...Different menu, of course...nine items, with six being vari- ous types of steak and the other three, bar-b-q ribs, Alaskan King Crab legs and fresh white fish. Also entertainment at its best...with Bob Posch on the new stage, Wednesday through Saturday. Ownership at Sundown is the same as it was with Ba- nyan Tree...Bill Coombe, Bob, Norm LePage and Jerry Kottlier...Decor is al- most as before...except for no salad bar in the center and no tree in the middle of the dining room...The salad bar at Linner is now brought to your table (it's there during lunch only now )...and the tree has been split up into various sections for decoration around the 260-seater room...Wicker baskets of all shapes and sizes are still on the walls. When you get to Sun- down, *a good-sized sign against the building outside greets you...Inside, before going into the room, a post- er reads, "25 cent cover charge per person. Not an entertainment charge but a fund that will be turned over to a charitable cause each month."...It's a volun- tary bit with Bob giving it all to - various chari- ties...Last month it was for muscular dystrophy in Wall- ed Lake. Concentration at the Sun- down Steak House is on three things... Very good food, very good service and very good entertain- ment...On all three, the owners have approached a, mark of excellence. Our waitress, Maxine Rogers, ranks among. the finest in our trav- els...Always smiling, ever pleasant and most con- scientious, she was a fine added attraction to a per- fect evening. We're not a pig steak eater, because to us, a steak has always been a steak (unless it's a big juicy chopped sir- loin)...However, the one Maxine brought us was much more than just a steak...it was a succulent, tender piece of one of the finest sirloin steaks we have ever had...truly an ex- cellent piece of meat, ex- pertly cooked to a joyful deliciousness. You won't find cottage fried potatoes on the dinner menu, yet...However, the super chef in the kitchen is Dick Sharp...so you know Sundown has to have them...and are they good...They should be... Dick made them about 21 years at a doWntown De- troit steak house famous for cottage fried po- tatoes...Not greasy...crisp outside and soft inside. Maxine brought us a cup of clam chowder soup...our own salad bar to mix on the table.`..then• a bottle of Ma- • donna Liebfraumilch white wine...those terrific cottage fries...and an unbelievably good steak...all the time re- taining her poise and com- posure in a manner of ef- ficient quickness. Then came Bob Posch, probably one of the very fin- est entertainers in the „area...who does it all ...guitarist, jokester, song- ster, impressions, audience jibber jabbing, etc...He's , even entertaining when re- placing a broken string on his guitar!...Bob's jokes are a riot...Risque and ethnic are done in good taste and everybody loves everybody when Bob is on stage. Reservations on . Saturday are at a well-deserved pre- mium...Bob , puts on three shows and the place was still crowded at 2 a.m....Between his second and third show, .the doors open to unfold the ultra glamorous Elephant Disco that holds over 400 people in an elegant bevy of Latin- American and standard rhythms set to a disco beat amidst masterful flickering lights and so many people having such a good time. . Everything - the Sundown Steak House has strived to attain...including a reason- able price range...is embo- died within an elegant, com- fortable atmosphere of res- taurant-nitery finery.
