THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Seder Ritual of Remembrance for Six Million Jews Who Perished at the Hands of the Nazis and the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Perform this Ritual after the Third of the Four Ceremonial Cups, just before the door is opened for the symbolic entrance of the Prophet Elijah. All rise, and the leader of Seder recites the following: English rendition of the Hebrew: On this night of the Seder we remember with reverence and love the six millions of our people of the European Ile who perished at the .nds of a tyrant more wicked than the Pharaoh who enslaved our fathers in Egypt. Come, §a1,1 he to his minions, let us cut them off from being a people, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more. And they slew the blameless and pure, men an'' women and little ones, with vapors of poison and burne'_ them with fire. But we abstain from dwelling on the deeds of the evil ones lest we defame the image of God in which man was created. Now, the remnants of our people who were left in the ghettos and camps of annihi- lation rose up against the wicked ones for the sancti- fication of the Name, and slew many of them before they died. On the first day of Passover the remnants in the Ghetto of Warsaw rose up “gainst the adversary, even as in the days of Judah the Maccabee. They were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided, and they brought redemption to the name of Isr-c..1 through all the world. And from the depths of their affliction the martyrs lifted their voices in a song of faith in the coming of the Messiah, when justice and brotherhood will reign among men. 2 irrm ,41'"?p 10, 1-n115 , 7p mtv.2, rli cr11o0 $ 02a nOt,) 1411t? 17 7.1 1l , T; 1904 n'71)? 7? .;V -1VP cr.r11, o -qr. 1, 61 '13P oTr.i?0,1zi ? iTtnt? 1irtyl io,p,t;a? ,0, r1r:,, -1;1;ln .71V 17t1ttr. nkt ` 7114 1V 0 cl' 1 ?127; vu 's 1 P95 7 914 1' 6 1 .1Y??-niDlt1 1 7P?1 . 01 1 $ trl? iz "V:0 1371.t7 t;$ P* -ap.sprynilni pp; nitum irov no* lonipr,in rr-p= Enn 141? it;:ip an v.)17,17 17, ;1 .r.r c? tm ,ottirj Wn.p 1 7v 0V; 01; 1 t 7'9;1 on.y.)77 lori, tr) ;VT; ioo 07:1"r1; D't.v?F..1 DV 7r473i.11 D'?7,11$3I .inYv4 'DVP73 nt.$11 -1wt4t7 L TV l't?k,v? Shapiro. president of the Labor Zionist Al- liance, voiced opposition last week to President Car- ter's proposal to abolish the Electoral College. Speaking to the LZA Na- tional Council. Shapiro said elimination of the Electoral College would reduce the po- litical strength of American Jewry and all ethnic groups, as well as Ameri- can labor in their ability to obtain their objectives through the political proc- ess." He explained that Jews in areas with large Jewish pop- ulations, such as the North- east. the industrial Mid- west. Florida and Califor- nia. Jews have political clout because their vote can help win the state for a Presidential candidate under the present system. If we have direct elec- tions. the Jewish popu- lation, which represents 2.9 percent of the total U.S. population, cannot possibly have any influence on the results," Shapiro said.
