Soviet Jew
Makes Movie

NEW YORK —A major
Soviet Jewish cinematog.-
rapher, Rafael Goldin,
has completed his first
film since emigrating to
Norway -in 1973 with the
assistance of HIAS.
"When I Return" depicts
the experiences of new
immigrants adjusting to
life under freedom.
Goldin, who now resides
with his sister in Oslo, is
the winner of five coveted
international film festi-
val awards from Belgium,
Germany, Yugoslavia,
Italy and Czechoslovakia.
He suggests in his latest
production that what
immigrants must often
grapple with, initially, is
freedom.— a phenomenon
many have experienced
rarely, if ever, in their
homeland.
