NEW YORK (JTA) ---
Rabbi Meir Kahane,
founder of the Jewish De-
fense League and head of
the new Israeli party,
Kach (Thus), announced
that he is launching a
nationwide drive in this
country to organize a
group called Af Sha'al
(Not One Inch) dedicated
to opposing any Israeli
attempt to give up "the
liberated lands of Eretz
Yisroel."
Kahane, who is in this
country for two weeks in
order to raise funds for
his Knesset election cam-
paign, said the new or-
ganization intends to col-
lect 100,000 signatures
"to oppose any further re-
treat by the Israeli gov-
ernment under U.S. pres-
sure, this time including
Judaea and Samaria."
At the same time, the
JDI. leader called upon
A "Committee to Re-
lease Jews from Arab
Countries" is distributing
a message in the Detroit
area, asking that persons
send President Jimmy
Carter a post card, letter
or telegram supporting
the emigration of Syrian
Jews.
Esther Pastor of the
committee said'-the mes-
sages should be sent to
arrive before
the
Washington visit of Sy-
rian President Hafez
Ass-ad-in April.
The-suggested message
states: ..
"As a Jew and citizen of
the United States I pro-
test that our tax dollars
are aiding the Syrian
government to continue
inhumanities and injus-
tices to 5,000 Jews not al-
lowed to leave Syria.
"President Assad will be
meeting with you, Presi-
dent Carter, in April, and
we feel the issue of releas-
ing these Jews should_be
made an issue. Syria is re-
ceiving the third largest
amount of foreign aid
given to a foreign power by
the United States today.
"Jews in Syria are
ghettoized and severly
controlled, discriminated
against and denied
human rights.
"Please, Mr. President,
do make this an issue.

Rivlin's Protest Bothers Norway
OSLO (ZINS) — David
Rivlin, former Israel con-
sul general in New York
and now Israel ambas-
sador to Norway, ruffled
diplomatic circles re-

in Israel to "pledge civil
disobedience to prevent
retreat from the liberated
Jewish territories."
Kahane also announced
that "in order to
strengthen opposition to
retreat" two settlement
groups, one in Israel and
the other in the U.S., for
the purpose of attempting
to settle in Samaria "in de-
fiance of governmental
ban," will be organized.
The groups will be known
as Garin Af Sha'al (the
"not one inch" settlers).
In announcing these
moves, Kahane said that
Torah law takes prece-
dence over that of a Knes-
set or government deci-
sion "that is in opposition
to Halakha (which) de-
mands unlimited Jewish
settlement in every part
of the land of Israel."

Makes 6 servings

I (3-pound) frying chicken. cut up '
2 tablespoons Planters"' Peanut Oil
8 small white onions, peeled
4 carrots..peeled and cut into thirds
4 scallions. sliced crosswise
1 teaspoon salt
V4 teaspoon pepper
2 cups dry white wine
V.2 pound small mushroom caps
2 tablespoons potato starch
2 tablespoons water
Chopped parsley
•- --Wash chicken pieces: blot dry with paper
towels. Heat Planters Peanut Oil in Dutch
oven over moderate heat. Add chicken
pieces in a single layer and brown well on all
sides. Set chicken aside. Pour off all but 2
tablespoons fat from Dutch oven. Add
onions. carrots and scallions. Saute until
onions begin to brown. Return chicken to
pot.Sprinkle in salt and pepper. Pour in
wine. Simmer covered for 25 minutes.
Mix in mushroom caps. Simmer covered for
an additional 20 minutes. Blend together
potato starch and water. Quickly stir into hot
liquid. Cook 1 minute longer.
Serve garnished with chopped parsley.
