Phonogift, sponsored by the AJC-IEF Women's Division, involves some 600 volunteers in a one- to-one appeal for con- tributions to benefit 60 humanitarian agencies, both local and overseas. Harriet Dunsky, Phonogift chairman, said that volunteers have been carefully briefed so as to be able to answer questions put to them by prospective contributors. Motor corps volunteers will be available to pick up Phonogift contribu- tions, and billing will be done on the spot by a vol- unteer clerical staff. At briefings this week, each Phonogift volunteer was solicited for her own contribution. Mrs. Dunsky explained that a personal commitment to the goals of the Campaign is required of volunteers who ask others to make a contribution. "Day chairmen" who will direct telethon ac- tivities during a block of time, include Beverly Laker and Janice Maritime discoveries made at the close of the Middle Ages were made possible by the new in- struments and astronom- ical tables perfected by Jews. These included an altitude measuring de- vice invented by Jacob ben Makhir that was known as "Quadrans Judaicus."
