We had had a meal fit for a Grecian God and God- dess ... plus ultra enjoy- able service ... But the evening wasn't over ... there was downstairs yet ... and a glass of Metaxa Greek brandy. Here Dino Koukoulas, playing "a mean bouzouki" backed by drums, guitar and organ, played live, enchanting music that seemed to slowly churn the bloodstreams of those in the 150 capacity downstairs nitery ... (on Friday and Saturday eves, 50 or 60 seats are used at dinnertime.) Then comes Sheba, bil- led as "the queen of the belly dancers" just back from Florida and shaking her tanned body beneath a head of blonde tresses ... with the calm, smiling gyrations that would in- deed make her a head- liner. Dino and his bouzouki band played on and the Greeks were restless ... The music was getting to them ... His rendition of Hava Nagila was danced to Grecian style by a couple of girls . . . then came another lady . . . and some men were breathing heavy in ready anticipa- tion of getting onstage for theif dancing kicks. This is Yassoo Greek Village ... a triple-threat combination of wonderful food, superb service and joyful entertainment. Greektown was never like this ... not even half as good ... and we used to go there many times ... The difference isn't in the locations ... it's because Yassoo Greek Village isn't just another Greek restaurant ... it's an ex- cellent experience! IT'S NOW called the Italian Old Attic, on Southfield and 12 1/2 Mile Rd. ... with Italian and American dishes ... plus pizza ovens that make both the square and round goodies . In- teresting fact at Italian Old Attic is that the two types of pizza are made from separate mixtures of dough ... We tried a piece of the square pizza and did discover a differ- ence. "I LIKE HIM and re- spect him, not only as a boss, but as a person. He keeps things moving right." ... This was Leon Carter, our waiter at the Scotch 'n Sirloin on Greenfield and James Couzens, speaking about Arlyn Meyerson, who has been devoting so much time there now that busi- ness has begun to rise again .. Before, Arlyn used to run back and forth to the Trio ... Now he and son Mark have the Scotch as their baby. Leon started at the Scotch 'n Sirloin as a bus- boy, 14 years ago ( 2 1/2 years after it opened) ... Just one week later he was made a waiter ... and today is one of the real good ones in town. We had dinner there with Hestor and Arlyn enjoying a very delightful evening with this fine couple, Thursday and Friday nights are Lobster Broil nights at the Scotch 'n Sir- loin ... We had a 11/4 lb. succulent beauty ($10.95) ... preceded by a crock of the Scotch's famous French onion soup with the heavy cheese melted over it. For dessert was a piece of cheesecake from the creamy recipe of Arlyn's mother, Mary Meyerson, that goes back to the days of Buddy's Bar-B-Q on 12th St. ... Mary is 74 now, feeling great, and very active with several organizations in Phoenix, Ariz. Next time you go to the Scotch 'n Sirloin, ask Pat Flowers to play some of those great favorites that made him the premier jazz .pianist in town . He's best on these songs ... tickling those ivories in feather-like fashion as he softly riffs the popular tunes of today and yes- terday ... This is the real Pat Flowers.
