THE

Statesman School
Open in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM — An
Institute of Statesman-
ship and Torah philoso-
phy has been established
in Israel, co-founded by
Prof. Paul Eidelberg and
Prof. Joseph Levinson.
The major aim of the
institute is education in
the art of statesmanship,
but the founders em-
phasize that the institute
will also ,seek to employ
the principles of states-
manship implicit in the
Torah. "We want to culti-
vate a Jewish form of
statesmanship," says Dr.
Levinson, "but one that
assimilates science and
philosophy."
The institute will also
attempt to strengthen
Israeli-American rela-
tions by means of critical
and constructive evalua-
tion of American and Is-
raeli statesmanship and
foreign policy. The insti-
tute will formulate policy
papers, conduct interna-
tional conferences and
publish a journal of
statesmanship and Torah
philosophy.
A one-year program
consisting of courses in
politics, religion and sci-
ence will be offered. The
curriculum is designed
primarily for English-
speaking students at the
graduate or near-
graduate level, and
classes will begin this fall.

Stone Sought No
Firings: Brzezinski

.

WASHINGTON (JTA)
— The White House
quoted National Security
Adviser Zbigniew
Brzezinski as saying that
Sen. Richard Stone (D-
Fla.) "has not requested
anyone transferred or
fired" because the
Senator thinks they are
hostile to Israel.
Presidential news sec-
retary Jody Powell
quoted Brzezinski - when
asked whether the White
House's silence was not
putting Stone under a
cloud.
Stone earlier said he
would not discuss the
conversation he had with
Brzezinski. The White
House had also declined
comment following a re-
port in the Washington
Post that Stone had
supplied a "hit list" of of-
ficials he wanted re-
moved. Powell said a "hit
list" would constitute a
presumption that people
would be fired. He noted
that., he has denied this.
Powell said the conver-
sation between Stone an'd
Brzezinski covered all
aspects of foreign policy,
including the Middle
East.
