Vol. 11 of "Ethni-city, a
Guide to Ethnic Detroit"
has just been published
by the Michigan Ethnic
Heritage Studies Center
of Wayne State Univer-
sity.
The Jewish Community
Council helped provdde
information for the book's
"Jewish" section.
In addition to sections
on other ethnic groups,
the book lists Jewish or-
ganizations, synagogues,
schools, restaurants and
bakeries.
City of Hope Unit
to Gather Sunday

Oakland Century Lodge Cites Marian Shifman at Dinner
Oakland
Century
Lodge of Bnai Brith will
present its annual "Spirit
of Bnai Brith Award" to
-Marian Shifman at a 6:30
p.m. dinner Tuesday at
Adat Shalom Synagogue.
The award is pi;esented to
a Jewish person making
"the most outstanding
contribution" to the
Jewish community of De-
troit, according to the
lodge.
Mrs. Shifman, the first
woman honoree of the
lodge, is vice chairman of
the Jewish Community
Council. She has been an

proclaimed nationally by

as a time for all Ameri-
cans to take a stock of the
role good vision plays in
the lives and to take ac-
tion to preserve their
sight with proper preven-
tive health care,

Michigan Optometric As-
sociation is in chz.rge of
conducting the 50th an-
niversary observance.
The optometric associ-
ation recommends earl - •
eye care examinations for
children, beginning at
age 3, and periodic eye
examinations for chil-
dren and adults for pre-
ventive health care.

discussion leader.
