JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The. majority of Israel's
youth regards emigration
from Israel (yerida) as a
phenomenon highly
damaging to the state, a
survey conducted re-
cently by the Zionist
Council in Israel showed.
The survey was pre-
sented last week by the
Council's chairman, Arye
Zimuki, at the weekly
session of the Zionist
Executive.
According to the sur-
vey, this position is More
widely shared by religi-
ous youth (85 percent), al-
though 75percent of secu-
lar youth adopted the
same position.

Jewishness. Only 35 per-
cent of the secular Jews
said that had they not been
born in Israel, they would
have wanted to be born as
Jews.

However, 90 percent of
the religious Jews said
they would have wanted
to be born as Jews any-
. where else in the world.

Herzog Warns of Attempts to Divide Jewry,
Pleads for Unity at Dinner Honoring Lehrman

Herz,og warned of at-
tempts by the Arab dip-
lomats in this country to
scheme the spreading of
distortions about a de-
veloping moderation in
their ranks. The chief
aim, he admonisied
American Jewry in his
address, is to divide the
Jewish community,
thereby harming Israel
and the truth.
Dr. Herzog spoke at the
dinner following a Convo-
cation ceremony at which
he was awarded an hon-
orary degree Of Doctor of
Hebrew Letters, that af-
ternoon, at Temple
Emanuel in Miami. -
• At the dinner, the
Rabbi Max Arzt Distin-
guished Service Award
was given to Rabbi Moses
Lehrman of Detroit's
Bnai
Congregation
-
Moshe.
Deeply moved by the
honor, Rabbi Lehrman
expressed gratitude to
Dr. Louis Finkelstein, the
seminary's Chancellor
- Emeritus, who made the
presentation to him.
Rabbi Lehrman studied
under Dr. Finkelstein at
the seminary, where he
was ordained in 1942.
Rabbi Lehrman also ex-
pressed gratitude for a
special greeting at the
dinner from his brother,
Rabbi Irving Lehrman of
Temple Emanuel, Miami.
At the Convocation Di-
nner, at which Judge Irv-
ing Cypen presided, Na-
tional Community Serv-
ice Awards were pre-
sented by Rabbi Stanley
J. Schachter to B. Jerome
Joseph of Miami Beach,
Joseph M. Levine of
Chicago, ,Arthur Rud-
nikoff of Quebic and
Donald Smith of Harri-
son, N.Y.
In a definitive address
outlining the Jewish
Theologi:cal Seminary's
services-Dr. Gerson- Co=
hen, Seminary Chancel-
lor, outlined the major
needs for expansion of
educational tasks in this
country: He spoke with
confidence of the devo-
tion to learning by the
seminary student body
and the prbsi5ects for in-
creasing contributions to
Jewish cultural efforts
from their ranks.

bassador and other Arabs ,
have attended Jewish
functions with an aim at
spreading the lie about
moderation in their
ranks, he disputed them
by calling attention to the
continuing Arab threats
that "the Israel entity
must disappear."
Without 'mentioning
Breira by name it was
evident that this move-
merit that seeks ap-
peasement with the PLO
was denounced by Herzog
as the group that makes
concessions to Arabs in
the spreading of its mis-
representations that lead
to divisiveness in Jewish
ranks.
A strong plea for em-
phasis on learning
marked the ambassador's
scholarly address. He ex-
pressed gratitude for the
honors accorded him to
the seminary which he
described as a major'
Jewish center of learning.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman
was honored at a cocktail
reception on Feb. 21 at
