Center lists Achivities for Retarded

The Jewish Community

These clubs offer the
ortunity for recre—.

Amendments

Editor, The Jewish News=
In the Readers Forum
of Feb. 18, Mr. - Stuart
Snider attempted to re-
fute my statement that
the Sages (of the Second
Commonwealth) never
amended the Torah.
My statement is predi-
cated on the unequivocal
statement of our Sages of
the Talmud (Shabbos
104A, Megillah 2B, Yoma
80A, Tmurah 16A) based
on the verse "These are
the Mitzvot - (Leviticus
27:4) that even a prophet
may not add or amend
anything to the Torah.
It has been the firm
conviction of traditional
Jewry that both the writ-
ten and oral tradition
were received by Moses
directly 'from,G-d. The
oral tradition is that part
of Torah which contains
the guidelines for the
Scriptures. This will exp-
lain the reason as to why
many of the laws seem to
deviate from the original
Scriptural text.
