On a recent trip to To- ronto, several Detroit area singles enjoyed din- ner at Hy's on Richmond St. in the downtown area. Entrees ordered by the group included Chateaubriand, "surf and turf" and salmon steak. The dimly-lit, oak- paneled dining room pro- vided an elegant atmos- phere for an evening of relaxed dining. Swift ser- vice by a smiling, - pleas- ant French waiter and succulent meats, fishes and seafood entrees com- plemented by fresh veg- etables and .salads made for a meal which. many will seek out again on fu- ture trips to Toronto. With the freedom from spouses and children, owing to their unmarried situations, singles have the liberty to take ex- tended trips to anywhere they please. Several area singles recommended the following when asked about their -favorite out- of-town restaurants: BOB TOBIAS, a sys- tems engineer, said he en- joyed Beefsteak Char- le'y's in Framingham, Mass. "The restaurant had an excellent salad, bar. Its service was good and both house wines were excellent." He said the dark, rustic New Eng- land decor made for com- fortable dining. In Chicago, Tobias re- commends Pisisterra for its "excellent Greek food." Located on Lawr- ence Ave., north of Lin- coln, the restaurant makes a special salad. which, Tobias said, he is unable to find anywhere else. For pizza, Tobias re- commends Gino's West on Rush St. where one is of- fered "superior pasta and fine pizza." Prices are reasonable. Delicatessen aficionados will enjoy Bubbie and Zadie's where one can find a good . corned beef sandwich and good cheesecake. What is unusual about this re- staurant, according to Tobias, is that its patrons are invited to read the comic books placed on the tables. MARV WAGNER, trea- surer -and social commit- tee chairman of the Michigan Jewish Singles Council, said the Casa Crute on Bloor Ave. in Toronto had "the best French onion soup" he had ever tasted. He said the restaurant offers good-sized portions. Cre- pes are a specialty in the cafe-like French restaur- ant. TED COHEN, a cer- tified public accountant with a Southfield firm and a popular figure on the local Jewish singles scene, recommends Pum- pernick's in Miami Beach, Fla., for brunch. Cohen said the deli offers good portions and has "excel- lent pastries and de- sserts." The food is good and prices are "very reasonable." Cohen suggests that visitors to Chicago- try the Chicago Claim Co., a re- staurant that specializes in custom-made hambur- gers. The menu is in the shape of a goldminers washing pan. The main attraction is the "Mother- lode" hamburger, an oversized hamburger to which can be added any of nine goodies of the cus- tomer's choice, such as mushrooms, sauces, let- tuce, onion and cheese. The restaurant has an "excellent salad bar" ac- cording to Cohen, and prices are reasonable. The Brewery with its futuristic interior had a giant salad bar, Cohen re- called. He said the re- staurant had a limited menu and the food was good. What was unusual about the restaurant was that it had a fruit bar, where fresh fruit was of- fered in the style of a salad bar. Prices are moderate. • Pro Musica Society has rescheduled its Jan. 28 concert featuring baritone Leslie Guinn for 8:30 p.m. today in the De- troit Institute of Arts. Refreshments will fol- low.
