ning made for most com-
patible togetherness.

Next night, Frieda and
ourselves saw Helen
Reddy and Joan Rivers in
the Celebrity Room . . .
The food was very good
but the show was lacking
. . Next day, we had to
have the famous MGM
brunch everyone talked
so much about . . . and
were astounded at what
people could get for . $4
. . . Tables from one end
of the Celebrity room to
the other, from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m., were loaded with
every kind of goodie im-
aginable . . scrambled
eggs to prime rib.
When Frieda came back
from playing bingo at the
Aladdin, we .went to see
Hallelujah Hollywood
. . . It was our sixth time,
and we always enjoy it
more each visit . . . (Note
to JoAnn. Forbes who
hadn't seen it yet — how .
can you miss it!)
Prior to Hallelujah Hol-
lywood, in the MGM
Grand's Gigi Room with
Sid, the gourmet French
food was bypassed (ex-
cept for a bowl of lobster
bisque which was delici-
ous) for some marinated
herring and Dover sole
. . . Frieda was French
only on the escargots and
had a juicy-looking filet.
DISA 'N DATA . . .
Wedding special • for
$29.95 includes church or
chapel fees, wedding
creed, toaster's glass,
photo frame and Las
VegaS souvenir . .
Liberace shbw at the Hil-
ton International before
Ann-Margaret, had him
riding onto the stage in a
sequined Rolls Royce,
popping out of the back
seat in floor-length er-
mine . . In a silver-

sequined tux, he stepped
to a piano made of mirrors
. . . Sign in an antique
shop: "Come in and buy
what your grandmother
threw away" . . . Helen
Reddy at MGM Grand has
finished "Pete's Dragon"
the Disney musical with
Red Buttons.
Total of 3,000 table
games and more than
55,000 slot Machines are
licensed in Nevada . . .
Mickey Rooney in the
three-act play,
"Alimony" at Tropicana,
should know what he's
doing . . . Play -might be
funny, but paying out all
that loot isn't so laugha-
ble to Mick . . . Rich Lit-
tle better than ever at the
Riviera . . . He and The
Lettermen make up an
expert blend of super en-
tertainment.
Harry Belafonte just
so-so at Caesar's Palace
. . . Johnny Ray a lounge
act at the Silver Bird
(former Thunderbird)
. . . Great bet on the strip
are those old movies at
the MGM Theater . . .
"High Society" with Bing
Crosby, Frank Sinatra,
Gene Kelly and Celeste
Holm opened day before
we left . . . Willie "Buf-
falo'' Ehrlich anxiously
waiting to end his vaca-
tion and get .back to work
at the Holiday Casino . . .
Andre Simeteys, execu- .

tive maitre 'd at MGM
Grand, is much more than
his title . . . He's one of
this very fine hotel's ex-
cellent public relations-
minded men.
What started out as a
near disastrous trip to
Las Vegas wound up to be
a good one . . . thanks to
people like Morrie Jaeger,
Sid Hudson, JoAnn
Forbes and Andre
Simeteys . . . Also to the
United Airlines crew on,
the way back . . . and the
lush who hollared, "Who- -
opee! Back to shnow!"

LANDED IN

DETROIT

after leaving beautiful
70-degree weather . . .
and our genial pilot say-
ing, "Back to winter" no
doubt with a frown him-
self . . . Wasn't as bad as
we had heard in Las
Vegas . . . But son Scott
said we really missed a
biggie thank
Heavens for that.

GET WELL WISHES
. . . to Dr. Alvin Skelly,

assistant superintendent
of education for City of
Detroit . . at home on
North Park Place in
Southfield.

JUST TURNED 20 on
the day we were at Dimit-
ri's Nikos on Woodward,

just north of 11 Mile, was
fine young waitress
Michele Toohey . . . We

had a delicious piece of
white fish, Frieda and
Pam had lo-cal chicken
cacciatori and . Scott
licked his fingers after
the veal parmigiana . . .
Fresh, young waitresses
like Michele are a plea-
sure to have serve you if
they know how a cus-
tomer should be treated.

ATHENIAN CUISINE

is name of new Greek res-
taurant just opened on
Southfield, just south of
10 Mile . . . One of the
owners, Pete Lascaris,
was chef for five years at
a top Greektown eatery
. . . Other bossman is his
nephew, Terry Karamalis
. . . Everything is made
on the spot . . . even the
honey . . . but main thing
at the little 50-seater is
something Purple Pickle
and others didn't have
. . . a stove and an oven
. . . so ultra impOrtant
for Pete to make his very
good authentic Greek
dishes . . . Not-having
them was why the others
didn't have any dinner
business.
Also at Athenian
Cuisine is smiling, very
good waitress Alice Bon
field . . . and peppy, ver
personable manager
Ilene Ryan . . . The new
Athenian Cuisine re-
staurant is open seven
days for breakfast, lunch
and dinner.
OVERHEAD outside of
a local movie house . . . "I
liked the book better. At
least I could swat flies
with it. -

HAVE YOU HEARD
. . . about the frowning

wife to her husband at a
cocktail party, "I wish
you'd stop introducing me
to people as your room-
mate. - . . . or about the
office nurse, holding
