name after being closed
down by the Argentine
government.

and community, rep-
resentatives; the second

The book by Arthur
Butz, an associate profes-
sor of electrical engineer-
ing, "The Hoax of the
Twentieth Century," was
published last May in Eng-
land. Its central theme is
that a planned extermina-
tion campaign against the
Jews during World War II
never existed and that
clainis otherwise are "a
pack of lies" and "a con-
coction of the Zionist
movement."
As documentation the
book uses statements by
Hitler's leading hen-
chmen. Until the recent
furor, the book had re-
ceived little attention.
The university ad-
ministration - upheld
Butz's right to freedom of
speech, but it was -not
until Jan. 26, nearly two
weeks after the student
paper revealed the book's
existence, that the uni-
versity issued a state-
ment deploring the book
as "a contemptible insult
to the dead and be-
reaved:*

American Federation of
Jewish Fighters, Camp
Inmates and Nazi Vic-
tims called on Robert H.
Strotz, president of
NorthWestern University
to "speak out and have
the tenure of Butz re-
viewed."
Benjamin R. Epstein,
national director of the
Anti-Defaniation League
of Bnai Brith, described
the book as "a macabre

According to the Insti-
tute of Jewish Affairs
(IJA), the publishers,
"Editorial Milicia," who
specialized in Spanish
translations of old Nazi
literature, was closed
down last September but
it has surfaced again
under the name "Ed-
ciones Odal."

All the titles that were
supposed to be illegal,
such as Hitler's "Mein
KampfY and the "Pro-
tocols of the Elders of
Zion," continue to be con-
spicuously displayed in
bookshops and kiosks
throughout the country,
as - if nothing had hap-
pened, the IJA reported.
