A recent Louis Harris
poll indicated that a 65-22
percent majority of the
American people do not
feel that a total settle-
ment between the Arabs
and Israel can be worked
ut.
he poll also indicated
at most Americans
have become less confi-
dent that the govern-
. ments of Israel and Egypt
are "reasonable and will
really work for a peace
settlement in the Middle
East."
At the same time, the
poll showed that a 66-17
percent majority felt that
"the Only way to get a
peace settlement bet-
ween the Arabs and Is-
rael is to have them sit
down together and ham-
mer out a peace settle-
ment themselves."
