Interestingly, Freud's
writings, dreams, and
self-analysis offer ade-
quate data for anyone to
arrive at any conclusion
he wishes to prove.
In "From Oedipus to
Moses, Freud's, Jewish
Identity" (Anchor
Press/Doubleday), the
author, Marthe Robert,
attempts to illuminiate
the identity aspect of
Freud's life, and traces
Freud's conflicts relating
to his father.. His inner
struggle began with "In-
terpretation of Dreams,"
1897, and continued in his
last book on "Moses and
Monotheism," 1938.
The author begins with
Freud's own revelations
about his ambivalent feel-
ings to his father's death in
1897 as manifested by his
reported dreams. It was
his feelings of depression
and self-doubt that led to
his self-analysis and to his
concept of thq. Oedipal re-
lationship.
