Bread Required for Grace

By RABBI SAMUEL J. FOX

(Copyright 1977, JTA, Inc.)

.

Jewish tradition re-
quires a piece of bread to
be left on the table while
reciting the grace after
meals because a person
gen,erally should not
finish everything on the
table so that something
would be left in case a
poor person happened to
come by. -
The basis for this
reasoning is traced to the
passage in the Bible
which tells of the miracle

The Talmud (Sanhed-

him that they had only

USA Launches
Parents' Program

NEW YORK — The
Commission on Jewish
Education of the United
Synagogue of America,
the congregational net-
work of Conservative
Judaism, has launched
the first program in the
United States designed
specifically for parents of
Jewish adolescents.

Called "Parent Educa-
tion for Parents of Jewish
Adolescents," the pro-
gram attempts to help
parents of adolescent
children cope with their
special concerns within a
framework of Judaic reli-
gious values.

The Arabs have dwelt in
Eretz Yisrael for hundreds
of years, Arabs whose
ancestors were born here
and died here and for whom
Eretz Yisrael is their coun-
try in which they wish to
and shall live in the future.
We must accept this fact
willingly and draw all the
necessary conclusions. This
is the basis of true under-
standing between us and the
Arabs. This understanding
will not be achieved today or
tomorrow. No matter how
fervently we desire it.
