Rabbi Concludes Local Kashrut Controversy

Editor, The Jewish News:
In his recent reply,
Rabbi Jack Goldman still
tries to justify rabbinical
supervision for an item
such as cornstarch.
The rabbi's assertion
that "corn starch has a
tendency to cake" is pa-
tently incorrect.. To prove
my point, I should like to
draw the attention to,the
fact that "Domino" pow-
dered sugar has 3 percent
cornstarch added to it "to
prevent caking." It is so
seated on the package.
This practice has been
going on for years and
knowledgeable people are
well aware of it.
On the other hand,
ground black pepper (and
again, that can be substan-
tiated)-can not be proces-
sed without containing
impurities such as parti-
cles of insects; yet it is en-
dorsed by the OU organi-
zation. Small wonder that
people are asking ques-
tions!
It seems to me that en-

dorsement of any food
item, as being kosher,
carries with it great re-
sponsibilities, and I leave
it to the reading public to
decide whether these re-
sponsibilities are dis-
charged in a manner that

is in consonance with
high ethical principles.
