In the joint com-

BEVERLY HILLS,
Calif. (JTA) — "The He-
brew University will now
stand as the center of
Freud's thinking. In some
mystical sense, Sigmund
Freud has come home at
last," Dr. Charles Ansell,
a 'clincial psychologist in-
volved in creating the
Sigmund Freud Chair of
Psychoanalysis at the
Hebrew University of
Jersualem, stated re-
cently.
Freud was a member of
the first board of gover-
nors of the university.
Freud, who was in-
terested in tracing his
Jewish lineage as far back
as possible, was chagrined
when he could not attend
the historic opening of the
university on Mount
Scopus in the spring of
1925, Ansell noted. Illness
kept him from being pre-
sent on the day that Lord
Balfour stood in the am-
phitheater overlooking
the holy city and officially
proclaimed the Hebrew
University as the univer-
sity of the Jewish people.

"The Arabs, in other
words, are going to hand
Israel an account that
will include not only
Jerusalem, Nablus, Gaza,
Sinai and Golan — but
first of all, Tel Aviv,
Haifa, Jaffa and
Nazareth.
"The Arabs will de-
mand not just the West
Bank and the Gaza Strip
but their rights in all
their lands occupied since
1948.
"The slogan of the re-
storatidn of the rights of
the Palestinian Arab
people and the slogan of
the liberation of Pales-

nation of Israel — have
one and the same mean-
ing, and not two con-
tradictory meanings,"
the Voice of Palestine de-
clared on the Damascus
Radio.
Quiet Holiday in Bethlehem
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Thousands of Christian
pilgrims and visitors cel-
ebrated Christmas in
Bethlehem amid heavy
security precautions.
Security forces, includ-
ing local policemen, police
reserves from elsewhere
in the county and soldiers
surrounded Manger
Square to search
everyone who entered. At
the outskirts of town,
police checked the special
entry permits which were
issued to visitors.
The ceremonies open
Friday afternoon as
Latin Patriarch Giacomo
Beltritti led a procession
from Jerusalem to the
Church of the Nativity.
The live TV broadcast of
the midnight mass was
carried out according to
schedule. Radio and tele-
vision broadcasting return

An interesting event
during the Christmas cel-
ebrations in Bethlehem
was the arrival of a 32-
year-old Englishman,
Francis Clark-Lowies
who walked 7,000
kilometers for a year-
and-a-half from London
to Bethelem for Christ-
mas eve.

Dr. Martin Wangh of
New York, international
chairman of the Sigmund
Freud Chair Committee,
said "Such a chair at the
Hebrew University had
long been one of Freud's
cherished dreams. When,
in 1933, Hitler's book-
burning foreshadowed the
end of free science and art
in Europe and the ultimate
destruction of European
Jewry, Freud explicitly
asked that a chair of
psychoanalysis be estab-
lished at what he warmly
called 'our university.' "
"Today," Wangh con-
tinued, "the Hebrew Uni-
versity — now an institu-
tion of world renown —
looks forward to the
privilege of creating a
Sigmund Freud Chair in
Psychoanalysis. This
chair, which is to have the
broadest humanistic ap-
peal, will become a center
for the interchange of
psychoanalysis thinking
with medicine, the othe'r
social sciences, the arts
and every study that
touches the understand-
ing of man . . ."
