BEETHOVEN
-mer's Israel Festival
thanks to original Beeth-
oven research being con-
ducted currently at an Is-
raeli university.
The project has been
undertaken by the Dept.
of Musicology at Bar-Ilan
University as part of a
special seminar for MA
students entitled, "The
Authentic Performance
of Beethoven Sym-
phonies."
The research is being
based on copies of rare
original Beethoven man-
uscripts, some unknown
until recently, notably of
the Fourth, Third,
(Erolea) and Seventh
Symphonies.
"To the best of our
knowledge," says Prof.
Barya Churgin, head of
the department, "this.is
the first concerted effort
to create a more authentic
guide for the performance
of the above mentioned .
symphonies, especially the
Fourth, a much neglected
work."
To help the staff and
students in this task,
Prof. Churgin has ob-
tained microfilms and
photocopies of the origi-
nal. autographed scores,
