chief judge to a two year
term effective Jan. 1.

being considered for U.S.
Attorney in Detroit, it be-
came known this week.
President-Elect Carter
is believed to have him on
his list of prospective ap-
pointees to succeed Philip
Van Dam, a Republican,
who is certain to be re-
placed by the incoming
Democratic Administra-

judicial functions includ-

On completion of Judge
Clarkson's second term as
district judge in 1978, he
will have completed 20
years of elective public
service to this commu-
nity.
