THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Danny Raskin's LISTENING POST By HY LEWIS Guest Columnist are working to put as many stalwarts as they can into one facility to house all apparel reps under the aegis of the Mart Trade Ass'n., Inc., banner. The Southfield building on 10 Mile Rd. al- ready has such gentry as Alan Coleman, Sherwood Leitman, Bob Adler, Phil Layne; Jerry Lewis, Harold Freedman Dick Sparr, Mike Freedlander -and a host of others who have created the most beautiful sample rooms for the viewing of Michi- gan retailers. THE NAME SASSOON to hair stylists is like the famous name, Antal Dorati to musicians and music lovers, and both are fine artists in their own right . . . and that makes for a story. Lucy Healy, boss-lady of the Trend Setter salon in the Evergreen and 12 Mile shopping mall, made one cashier lady at the Great Scott Market very happy. Lucy selected her as a model for Mr. James, the Sassoon VP and assistant who was on a teaching tour of the country. The work-shop at Lucy's salon included six other owners who attended the seminar. As receptionist Ruth Schecter would say, "Sassoon styling is one of the best 'cut-ups' in the hair styling business." A MATTER OF seman- tics. Seven-year-old Julie Oram teaching her 3-year-old sister, Robyn, right from wrong . . . like it is right to play with your toys but wrong to play with mine without permission. This had lit- tle Robyn in a dilemma. The other day when mother Donna was put- ting on Robyn's shoes, she pointed and asked for her right foot, when puz- zled Robyn's eyes went to her left foot and asked if her left foot needed per- mission. HANDSOME Jerry Bielfield, Detroit Ford dealer, taking a vacation as chairman of the annual automobile show at Cobo Hall, leaves a va- cancy hard to follow. Jerry gave the Motor City auto show not only great success but lots of class. LANSING DATELINE: Joe Forbes, Democratic Floor Leader, who is offi- cially the No. 4 man in the hierarchy, picks up the whip again by defeating Taxation Committee Chairman George Montgomery of Detroit. I'll never forgetJoe's quip years ago, while playing golf at Glen Oaks along with brother Sol and Sam Winer, "Golf is like taxes - you drive hard to get to the green and then wind up in the hole." LOVE STQRY ... For a marriage to last 50 years for two very attractive, opular and personable eople like Jack and Mildred Katz, it had to have the foundation of love ... the kind that could weather all the years, and grow and blos- som to finally culminate in a golden happening. The gala anniversary celebration at the Town and Country Club given by their children Herb and Ruth, Jerry and Janice, with all of the grandchildren, Steven, Debra, Marcie, Michael and Lori along with rela- tives and good friends to say ... many, many more years of love and happi- ness and looking forward to your great-grand- children. ONE OF THE most beautiful young ladies to ever grace a podium as president of her high school class next June is Pam Lewis, daughter of proud parents Sol and Elaine Lewis of Oak Park. Pam won her high office by vigorously campaign- ing and didn't have to promise to cut taxes or remedy unemployment. Oak Park High is not chauvinistic at all and may set a precedent for Pam to become the first Lady President of the U.S.A. AND MARILYN BARRY Charlip's son David wants to be the first Jewish super-star in the world of hockey. Every time he plays for the Howie Glass Royal Oak Pee-Wees, 11-year- old David's rooters are not only Mom and Dad but sisters Karen and Julie who are 7 and 6. /- TELEVISION'S con- troversial Lou Gordon doesn't mince words . . . you either hate him or love him. However one about the one-time 1.1. feels manufacturer's rep who drummed for White Stag, I' Lou champions his Jewish heritage con- Om stantly on the air waves. While diplomacy and tact I in Lou may sometimes be wanting, he makes you i--- proud to be a Jew . . . Yes, he tells it like it is. SHADES OF the old Graystone Ballroom lays. Buddy Nathanson [Rik, of the Mr. and Mrs. Group of the City of Hope who spearheaded his group in putting on that fabulous dance fest back in Oc- tober which netted over $1,000 for the Cancer Re- search Hospital in Duarte, California, had so many calls to repeat the fun for the young-at- heart middle-agers, that they are doing it again next March.
