JERUSALEM (JTA) —
A survey ordered by the
Jewish Agency's immi-
gration department has
shown that 20 percent of
the graduates of the He-
brew University intend to
pursue post-graduate
studies abroad — 90 per-
cent of them in the United
States.
Dr. Amos Drori of the
Hebrew University, who
conducted the survey,
.said it could be assumed
that a certain number of
these students are "po-
tential emigrants."
Dr. Drori said that most
of those planning to study
in the U.S. said their deci-
sion was not prompted b'y
any difficulties . in Israel
and that they would re-
turn after earning ad-
vanced degrees. But he
cautioned that a long stay
abroad could create
"temptations" for many
who would remain abroad
permanently.
Journalist Parley
Slated for Israel
TEL AVIV (JTA) — A
World Conference of
Jewish Journalists will be
held in Jerusalem Jan.
11-15, 1977.
It is expected to be at-
tended by 80-100 Jewish
journalists from all parts
of the world who write in
a variety of languages in
the general and Jewish
media.
Working sessions of the
conference will explore
the role of Jewish jour-
nalists in the Jewish and
general press and their
influence on contempor-
ary Jewish life. Promi-
nent Israelis will address
various sessions of the
gathering.
A special symposium on
Jewish journalism will be
held at Israeli President
Katzir's residence. Vari-
ous tours of Israel are in-
cluded in the program.
Kreisky Confident
of M.E. Settlement
VIENNA (JTA) — Au-
strian Chancellor Bruno
Kreisky said last week
"the time was ripe for di-
rect Jewish-Arab con-
tacts" in a new effort to
settle the Middle East
conflict.
Speaking at a news con-
ference, Kreisky said he
discussed the problem
with Israeli Premier Yit-
zhak Rabin at the
Socialist conference in
Geneva.
"Rabin told me he wel-
comed any Jewish-Arab
contacts with the excep-
tion of contacts with the
Palestine Liberation Or-
ganization."
Kreisky expressed con-
fidence that there is a
chance to settle the con-
flict between Israel and
Egypt and between Israel
and Syria "if the right
timing can be found."
The historian Josephus
referred to the Hanuka
festival as Urim,
"Lights," explaining that
the holiday acquired this
name because the right to
serve God came to the
