Criteria for selecting a student include: the reci- pient must be a Jewish student from the met- ropolitan Detroit area; he must maintain' superior scholarship; he must demonstrate a need for such financial assistance; and he must show leader- ship qualities or potential (campus participation or community activity). NCCJ Award Winner Picked NEW YORK — John D. deButts, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of American .Tele- phone and Telegraph Co., will be presented with the 12th Charles Evans Hughes Award of the Na- tional Conference of Christians and Jews at the opening dinner of the NCCJ's annual meeting Sunday in the New York Hilton Hotel. Irving Mitchell Felt, national chairman of the NCCJ's executive board and board chairman of Madison Square Garden Corp., is dyinner chairman. The Charles Evans Hughes Award is given "for courageous leader- ship in governmental, civic and humanitarian affairs" and is named in honor of the late Chief Justice Hughes, one of the founders of the NCCJ in 1928.
