members during the
month of June, according
to Rabbi Shaul Schenker,
JEP director.
Rabbi Schenker said
some 3,000 children took
part in JEP out-reach
programs during the
1975-76 school year. The
programs included
release-hour classes for
more than 230 children in
17 public schools
throughout the city.
Under - release-time
programs, operated by
several Jewish organiza-
tions, the city Board of
Education releases public
school pupils an hour early
for religious -instruction
away from the school
premises.
This past year, Rabbi
Schenker said, the JEP
program was extended to
150 public high school
students.
Shabbatons are held for
both Talmud Torah stu-
dents and day school stu-
dents. Asked why day
school students would
need a program of immer-
sion in more intensive
Jewish living, Rabbi
Schenker said many New
York City day school stu-
dents come from non-
Orthodox homes, where

Some Morrocco
Jews Returning

NEW YORK — Morroc-
can officials claim that
1,000 of the more than
200,000 Jews who fled
Morrocco since 1956 have
returned to that country
since March, when the
governinent announced a
campaign to persuade
Jews to return.
All but 17,000 of Mor-
rocco's 230,000 Jews fled
after French rule ended
in 1956. Most of the re-
maining Jews fled after
attempted coups against
King Hassan in 1960 and
1972.
Morrocco's economy
was hurt by the departure
of many Jewish techni-
cians. The government has
. allowed Jews to visit the
country, including those
with Israeli stamps in
their passports. •
Morrocco has refused to
admit those with Israeli
passports, but its Paris
embassy will issue a new
passport to any
Morrocan-born Jew, even
if his only identification is
an Israeli passport.

Amin Is Target
of Entebbe Raid?

LONDON (ZINS) — In
an interview with the
British weekly Sunday .
Telegraph, Idi Amin,
president of Uganda, re-
vealed that in their milit-
ary action in Entebbe, the
Israeli raiders wanted to
take him prisoner and
hold him as hostage.
He said that while they
assaulted the old building
at the Entebbe airport to
set free the passengers,
six commandos stormed
his residence located in
the new international
airport facility "with the
aim to capture me." How-
ever Amin boasted, a
Ugandan officer killed
two of the attackers, 4nd
the others fled.
