The Best of Everything

NEW BLOOMFIELD
Charley's, the second re-
staurant built around
Chuck Muer's neighbor-
hood, family-tavern con-
cept, has been opened on
W. Maple just east of Or-
chard Lake Rd.
The building, formerly
a Ponderosa Steak House
damaged by that tornado
last March, has been
completely redecorated
and a front porch and ves-
ule added, at a cost of
ore than $150,000.
It differs considerably
from Chuck's six seafood
restaurants in Southeast
Michigan, offering
primarily a la carte items
ranging from hambur-
gers and pizza to king
crab legs, bar-b-q ribs and
broiled fresh Boston
scrod.
At Bloomfield Char-
ley's, the tone of fun and
informality is set by a
giant television screen,
electronic game tables, a
popcorn machine, and an
authentic 1924 nickleo-
deon that features "The
Dizzy Rag" and "The
Luana Lou, One Step."
Natural wood and gay,
punchy colors are used in
the decor, along with
checkered table cloths ...
A number of historic
photos of graduating
classes and sports teams
from West Bloomfield
high schools line the walls
. . . Seating for 225 ranges
from booths to long tables
for groups and mixing,
and stools in a large bar
area
Bloomfield Charley's,
open seven days a week, is
patterned after Chuck's
first family tavern,
Northville Charley's,
which opened in Sep-
tember, 1975 on W. Seven
Mile Rd. in Northville.
A REAL FAMILY affair
... with honest-to-
goodness Italian home
cooking is the new Mr.
Jim's Lotsa' Pasta re-
staurant on Gratiot, just
north of 10 1/2 Mile across
from Eastgate Shopping
Center ... It's the site of
former San Marino eat-
ery, with seating for 80 .. .
Everybody works in the
kitchen at one time or
another ... owner Jim
Cammarata, son Carl,
mother Catherine and
sister-partner Germaine
Craprotta All the de-
licious Italian specialties
are features at this little
spot.

first anniversary ... Sole

PERCY KAPLAN,
executive director of the
Jewish National Fund in
Detroit, tells of the wait-
ress at an eatery being
asked to bring water in a
clean glass ... Upon re-
turning with the water,
the gal asked, "Which one
of you ordered the clean
glass?"
GAMBLE ROGERS,
folk singer supreme, ends
his Raven Gallery, 12

this Sunday night.

and David Lum, bossman
at the Rikshaw Inn, W.
Maple and Orchard Lake
Rd., also was third celeb-
ration of the popular
Oriental gourmet dining
spot.
Twenty
people
thoroughly enjoyed the
elegant menu that in-
cluded four choice wines
and luscious dishes and
the dessert topper of
cheesecake with cherries.
The excellent food
served at Rikshaw Inn is
already noted in far away
places ... with people
coming here asking to be

about getting a reserva-
tion ... The persons in-
vited to Temple and
Dave's shindig were all
localites, but many cus-
tomers in other parts of
the dining rooms talked
with the next-table folks
about their respective
home towns ... some as
much as 3,000 miles apart
... Rubbing elbows with
celebrities also goes on
constantly at the Rik-
shaw Inn.

HEAD MAN,
chef
Larry, the guy who
dreams up all those
yum-yum dishes for
Chuck Muer's many re-
staurants, has sent three
recipes to Kraft Foods in
the last three years .
and each time has won a
prize ... even though he
has yet to taste any of
them.
HAROLD HAFTKA,
waiter at Carmen's Fior
d' Italia on 12 Mile and
Northwestern, was for-
merly a cook in the
kitchen at John Young's
eatery ... Should know
food, so customers may be
assured he'll bring it out
only if okay ... Harold is
very polite, pleasant and
most attentive . . . The lit-
tle extra things that
waiters should know will
come with experience in
this field.
