26 Friday, November 26, 1976 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS LARCO'S Danny Raskin's Fine Italian-American Cuisine LISTENING POST PROOF THAT YOU don't need a big-name star was Sarah Rubine's great success at the re- cent Detroit Businessmen's Group, City of Hope annual 'dinner-dance . . . The in- ternational songstress recommended by Nat Re- chter, turned out to be one of the best things to happen at these affairs. As Sam Geller put it, "She sure is worth the money!" . . . Sarah wasn't just very good . . she was excellent . . . and had an audience of over 400 calling for encore after encore with stand- ing ovations. Many were the regular attendees already used to mediocrity performances from established stars . . . But Sarah Rubine was electrifying and the glue people had on their back seats sure didn't rub off on their much- applauding hands. The Detroit Busi- nessmen's Group, City of Hope dinner-dance brought us another "first" . . . vegetable soup instead of mus- hroom barley at the Raleigh House . . . Dave King celebrated his 80th birthday . . . Harvey Sosin denied reports that he doesn't own a tuxedo . . . "However," said Harvey, "I wear size 42 and prefer blue." . . . Was supposed to be a black tie only affair, but corduroy suits, and even a sports jacket stood out rather glumly in the crowd of formal elegance. ASKED WHY SHE doesn't give up smoking, Lisa Allen explains, "Oh, I would, but I'm afraid to. The last time I quit they bombed Pearl Harbor." IT'S A REAL GOOD thing being done by Franklin Medical Phar- macy on 12 Mile, just east of Northwestern . . . The gents there don't just fill a prescription and hand it to your blindly . . . they actually keep a personal history card for every pa- tient, as they call their customers. This personal attention is extremely important, with folks asked allergy history (both food and/or drug, pollen, etc.) to put on the individual and family cards . . . Also dosage and precaution consultation with each prescription . . . what to expect from various drugs regarding reac- tions not to become alarmed at . . . Step number one with this fine bit of devotion is looking for the family or patient's history before filling the prescription. Franklin Medical Pharmacy, with its con- valescent surgical needs and equipment, for sale or rental, also, is a pleasur- able addition to the area . . . Your pharmacist must be selected with as 4a. much care as a doctor . . . This pharmaceutical spot does a very valuable pub- lic service for its patients. MARK WEISZ of An- chor Printing, quipped after receiving an unex- pected dividend from a stock he thought was worthless . . . "It was like getting money in the mail from a son at col- lege." ONE EVENING last week, Elsie and Jack Robbins called in a neighborhood teenager to baby sit with their two sons for the first time . . . When they came home, Elsie asked the sitter, "How are the boys?" . . . "They never phoned," said the sitter somewhat sadly. ABOUT THE situation on Greenfield north of 10 Mile Rd., where the traf- fic lights don't afford much safety for crossing elderly pedestrians . . . plus no sidewalks on the west side of Greenfield by the light at Northgate Blvd. and the area north of 10 Mile ... we have not let this matter drop . . . State Rep. Joe Forbes in whose area this is, as- sures us that something will be done . . . He needs letters of complaint . . . Write to: State Represen- tative Joe Forbes, State Capitol, Lansing, Michi- gan 48901. LAST TIME WE ever won anything was way back when Mom flipped a coin to see who'd get the cod liver oil, brother Mary or us .. So you can im- agine th e surprise when phone call came with info about our being the grand prize winner out of a hat at the recent Dysautonomia Mil- lionaire's Party . . . Judge Steve Andrews reached in and handed Eddie Gold our ducat . . . for a four-day vacation to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, including plane round-tripper for two. We'd sure like to pull the arm on a biggie slot machine winner for Dysautonomia . . . Or maybe one of the blackjack dealers will let us win for a change . . . knowing the dough will go to charity . . . In any event, to this day, brother Mary still 'thinks we slip- ped Mom a two-headed Lincoln head (couldn't have been any more in those days . . . Wish we had that coin with us in Las Vegas . Dysautonomia would be a big winner . . . and it sure wouldn't be cod liver oil!
