approximately 8 per cent
of the entire aliya in the
past year. Most of the
immigrants who agreed
to live on a kibutz came
from Western countries.
Only 48 new immigrants

The Robert L. Rosenbush Memorial Award has been
established by Mr. and Mrs. Isadore E. (Frances) Malin,
left, with a plaque to be awarded to the outstanding
member of the men's club "who most personifies values
that Bob Rosenbush held most dear." The three criteria
for judging were: Torah (study), Avodah (worship), and
Gemilut Hasodim (acts of loving kindness). Shown with
the Malins are Douglas Schubot, president of the men's
club, and Honey Rosenbush. The plaque will be pre-
sented annually and hung in the temple.

Council Will Promote Yiddish Culture
NEW YORK — The
American Committee of
the World Conference in
Israel for Yiddish and
Yiddish Culture has set in
motion plans for a per-
manent national council
to implement the resolu-
tions of the Jerusalem
meeting in August, 1976.
In Israel, steps were
taken to form a continu-
ing organization, a World
Bureau for Yiddish and
Yiddish Culture, to begin
implementation of
world-wide projects to
promote Yiddish studies
in schools, universities
and ulpanim to intensify
the Yiddish Book Club on
an effective operating
basis, and to develop
projects such as a Yiddish
theatre workshop.
Reports on the World
Conference have been
presented to many of the
American particpating
organizations and key
sponsoring groups have
already announced their
agreement to work to-
gether to create a , na-
tional council in order to
coordinate activities for
Yiddish and Yiddish cul-
ture in the United States.

bring together represen-
tatives from the sponsor-
ing organizations, co-
operating groups, indi-
vual leaders from the
major Jewish population
centers throughout the
United States and youth
representatives.
The participation of or-
ganizations and individual
sponsors will be broad-
ened to include local
community Yiddish Cul-
tural Councils.
To initiate the National
Council for Yiddish and
Yiddish Culture, a na-
tional symposium will be

DR. MANDLEBAUM

American-Israel Cultural
Commission. He was
editor of the "Eternal
Light" program on NBC
from 1955 to 1960 and is a
commissioner on'the New
York City Human Rights
Commission. He also is a
member of the executive
committee - of the Histad-
rut Ivrit and the Ameri-
can Academy of Jewish
Research.
In 1962 he authored a
work of Hebrew
scholarship, "Critical Edi-
tion of the P'sikta de Rav
Kahana." He is a con-
tributor to scholarly pub-
lications and participated
in the International Con-
ference of Jewish
Scholarship in Jerusalem
in 1960.
The dedication will
culminate with the ninth
annual Hasidic Concert

— The Central Statistics
Bureau reported that ap-
proximately one quarter
million Israelis went ab-
road in the first nine
months of 1976, while less
than 219,000 returned.
The report states that
between January and
September 244,300 left
Israel and 218,000 re-
turned. During the same
period last year, 234,000
went abroad and 210,200
returned.
