Jewish community are
due to meet to discuss the
possibilities of Soviet
Jewish relations with the
world organization. The
WJC Governing Board
authorized Goldmann to
proceed with this meeting
which will probably take
place in Paris in a few
weeks.

LZA Initiates
Aliya Program

CLEVELAND — The
Labor Zionist Alliance
has begun in Cleveland a
program of industrial
hakshara (preparation)
for those who wish to
make aliya.
The program was con-
ceived and carried
through by Harold
Isaacs, Cleveland inven-
tor and industrialist. The
vocations involved
primarily relate to metal
working and machine
building.

ceived through Roman-
ia's Chief Rabbi, Moses
Rosen, from leaders of
Jewish communities in
the Soviet Union and in
Poland seeking informa-
tion on possible relations
with the WJC.
Rosen said that Jewish
communal leaders from
the Soviet Uni6n, Hun-
gary, Yugoslavia, Poland
and Romania met in
Bucharest last September
and unanimously decided
to seek closer relations
with world Jewry.
Rosen wrote Goldmann
a few days later to inform
him of this request. It was
only last week after much
soul-searching, that the
Governing board ap-
proved these exploratory
talks. Several Board

Sephardim Topic
of WJC Program

GENEVA (JTA) — The
World Jewish Congress
decided to organize a
world conference on
Ladino "to celebrate and
honor the Sephardic
heritage" of the Jewish
people. This decision was
taken by the WJC board.

The .cultural commis-
sion of the board ap-
proved a plan for the pub-
lication of a uniform
series of Jewish classics
in English, Hebrew,
French and Spanish. The
Cultural Department of
the WJC will appoint a
small committee of scho-
lars to select and prepare
for the works due for pub-
lication.

The Governing Board is
also due to approve a pro-
ject providing for the es-
tablishment of a perma-
nent research commission
which will be responsible
for the work of the Insti-
tute of Jewish Affairs.
The provisional com-
mission on research also
suggested a study on
"new forms of anti-
Semitism," particularly
those originating from
Soviet, Arab, Third World
and New Left sources,
often in the guise of
anti-Zionism.

feared that a decision to
meet and talk with rep-
resentatives of the "offi-
cial community" might
weaken the fight of the
Jewish activists in the
Soviet Union.
